Great night at the CPAC tonight.  Mayor Brown was there to talk about downtown.

Back in 1986, downtown generated 17% of the city's revenue.  Now it is down to 2%.  The mayor said if we could get that up to 10%, it would solve the city's budget issues.

He spoke about getting quality jobs brought in.  We need to "market our city:  we're open for business".  We need to "shift our style."

As a side note:  apparently, it is universally accepted as backwards to have a sheriff department in a city this large in the 21st century.  While we understand it, the rest of the world looks at us cross-eyed.

The answer to housing issues is to get jobs and the houses will take care of themselves (my words here).

He looks to see a day center before the end of the year.

He wants Jacksonville to be the most military friendly place on the planet.

He's proud of his education project "Mayor's Mentors"

At the end he took questions and then shook hands.

I was really impressed that he took the time to come to our CPAC meeting.
