Spend a chunk of that $200 million on some killer new video screens, and save the rest for the down payment on the killer new 62,000 to 65,000 seat stadium that should eventually replace Everbank.

...coming to the vacant Shipyards property in 2035.

I was watching a video from 1995 and was so amazed how different the stadium looked.! it was so.. plain but yet it was being called" one of the greatest stadium in football" LMAO But I agree. Weve done a damn good job of taking care of that stadium. And expect to see more renovations to come under Khan. I just want a roof?! Cant a man dream Cooperfield???  ;D

Plain is a great word to describe it. But at the time, it along with Joe Robbie were the gold standards.

Looking at old footage, it's weird to see the south end zone open with the practice fields behind them too.

On the off chance they actually decided to go through with a roof, you can bet that public money would be used.  Billionaire NFL owners cannot be bothered to use their own money for such things.  That's what the taxpayers are for.

No money for kids and the citys future but cash for football freaks who cant take the heat? rediculous use of any public funds.

Alot of times stadiums are paid with increases to taxes on hotel rooms, alcohol, rental cars, prepared food. While it's cute to say that "taxpayers" of a given area are paying for it, it's a little more complex.

You do realize they aren't actually putting a roof on the stadium? Nor has there ever been a discussion on such a project.

"Some" of the money comes from special taxes...not all.

With the Vikings proposed stadium, the team would have paid for 400 million of it. Another 400 million would have come from the state with taxes on gambling. The remaining 100 million would have come from the city in the form of sales tax. The proposal was shot down by state lawmakers.

Ok.  That's one example.  The taxpayers of Miami put up 347MM and only 297MM came from tourist dollars.  The City also put up over 10MM.

Point is special taxes don't always cover the total cost.

In Jacksonville we'd build it.........the Jaguars would pay for it .........and the city would give the Jags the money back.

Out of curiousity, for all you engineers/architects/contractors... what would it cost to have a retractable roof put on sweet home Everbank Field?  You've probably seen Mularkey wants a practice bubble, which I'm sure is immensely cheaper, but it had me thinking and if Khan wants to upgrade the "fans experience" I know a lot of people talk about the heat (not me personally) early on in the season.  Not soo much looking to debate whether or not it should be done here, but can it be done and what would it cost?

All W.A.G. analysis's are welcomed and accepted!  Thanks!

I'd be all for it if the Jaguars footed the bill. But it would be a monumental waste of taxpayer money.
