Jacksonville appreciation

I spent a few days in Tallahassee.  We should appreciate what we have.  It's not much, but it could be worse.

Amen to that! Feel that way often when I travel the US. We're not as bad off as we think.

I feel that same way whenever I travel to Southwest Florida, Orlando, or Battle Creek, Michigan, as I do fairly regularly. We really do have a lot going for us.

Appreciating our assets while striving for better are two ingredients of a great city in the making.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

I always have fun when I go to crumbling, dirty, sketchy, tourist-hell New Orleans for a weekend. But when I come back, and drive over the Fuller Warren bridge and see our river and beautiful, bright, modern city, I'm like ahhhhhhh!!!

I appreciate Jacksonville when...

I go to Sioux Falls, SD for work, fly home and walk out of the airport.

Rightly lamenting Jacksonville's shortcomings and failures to take advantage of its assets should not supersede what wonderful assets it has.

The beaches, the weather, the rivers, the natural beauty and park space.  A professional football team deeply involved in its community and providing unprecedented fan access.  A history that is underappreciated and doesn't get enough play, but is nonetheless fascinating.  Warm and friendly people.  Distinctive architecture, neighborhoods, and food.

Jacksonville can do better but there are plenty of reasons why it's my favorite city and vacation spot.

I love our airport. After flying back from Houston this weekend, I realized how great of an airport we truly have.

If you love our airport on a dry day, you really need to see the terminal when its raining outside. Apparently, according to the workers in the terminal, it leaks everywhere and on that slick surface.....look out!
