^I agree.  Fairfax has been fine for years.

I own a rental in fairfax. Its a quiet bedroom community with not a hint of change or desire to be anything else. If the area ever becomes "happening" ill die of shock. Despite the economic downturn the "happening" areas will be riverside which is already blossoming and springfield. riverside was healthy enough to overcome the economics, springfield was in a much weaker position so the downturn has stunted its growth. When lending picks up so will it. North san marco also is undervalued at this time and is prime for remergence.

There is a sign up now on the old Travis gym turned bagel shop. It's called Bagel Love.

The Compound

Bagel Love has been in the works for a while. Not sure when he is opening though.

Jersey Mike's is now open.  Got dinner there last night.  Quite good.

Well I was there right before closing (Sunday) so there wasn't a lot of people in there at that time.  A few though.

Non-RedNeck Westsider

I was going to stop in for lunch on Friday, and the line was out of the door.  I think I may let the dust settle a bit.

Besides, I still have Larry's waaaayyyyy up on a pedestal, and I'm not looking to dethrone the king.   ;D

Go online, pick your stuff and how you want it, and then phone it in.  We did that on Friday and it was ready for me when I got there, even though the place was packed and the line was out the door.

Jersey Mikes does a good job with subs.  I'm only so-so about Larrys.

I'm not a huge fan of Larry's, however I don't dislike it.  But i would really consider Jersey Mike's to be more similar to Jimmy Johns (which I drove by the new location yesterday and they are making quite a bit of progress).

I gotta check out Jersey Mike's pretty soon, that Big Kahuna sounds good. I guess I'm the only one to think that Jimmy John's is overrated, I was just like 'eh'. I'm more of a 'hot sub' guy, and JJ's doesn't have any, maybe that's why I'm not wild about them; JJ's is the only sub franchise I know that don't have hot subs. IMO Firehouse, and Larry's are solid. I've been hearing good things about Publix subs, gotta check them out.

Jimmy Johns sucks!!!  The bread is awful.  The meats are no different than Subway meet.  And WORSE off, they NEVER EVER get your order right.  I'd rather them take 10 extra seconds to get your sub right.  All you're really doing is paying a higher price for subway-style meat and subs.  At least with Subway(gross) you pay less and don't get your order messed up.

Larrys is awesome(I eat there about every other day).  Firehouse would be a close second.  Plus, they are both 'local'.

I really, really like Jersey Mikes (and it's closer to my house than Larrys), however Larrys offers superior meats and has more 'hot' sandwich options than does JM's.

That being said, Jersey Mikes will be cutting into my Larrys consumption.

#1 Jersey Mikes
#2 Firehouse
#3 Larrys
#4 Subway

I may have missed a few spots like Publix or Quiznos, so I can't say that Jimmy Johns would be #5.  But I would put it at or near the bottom, or maybe tied down there with Stans in San Marco.

Jersey Mikes isn't super-great, but now that it's here it's the best in town.

Jersey Mike's!!! That means job opportunities! Let's all celebrate the arrival of Jersey Mike's at the landing like we did 7-Eleven!!!

I left off the Pinegrove Market in Avondale.  They also have very good sandwiches, probably better than Larry's or Firehouse, maybe even better than Jersey Mikes.
