Trevor Lawrence getting outplayed by another backup QB

I left the game in the second quarter with the Jags leading the hapless Texans, 16-0, to do chores.  Shocked to tune in at the last minute and see the capstone on our collapse. 

One thing to add... the Jags time management and use of time outs.  I would do everything I could to keep timeouts to the very end.  And, never enough plays to the sidelines or passes that, if incomplete, would stop the clock vs. running plays down the middle.

One of the local media also highlight the diminishing defense giving up higher scores the last 3 games.  Not the defense we started the season with, it appears.

Liam Cohen can't draw up a play to keep Trevor from getting killed because A) We have the worst pass-blocking Oline in the NFL and B) Trevor is probably the worst QB in the NFL at avoiding pressure in the pocket. That decision to go for 2 was pretty awesome too, wasn't it? Would have been a tied ball game after the last Texans (offensive) TD. At this point I see no difference between a Press Taylor led offense and a Liam Cohen led offense. Absolute garbage.

We should have known that the second Josh Allen decided to hyphenate his name he would have turned into a complete pumpkin. Trayvon Walker "isn't mad" about what happened yesterday, just disappointed. Because, what's there to get mad about when you let a back-up QB perform at MVP Tom Brady levels? I'll be the optimist here.

A turnaround was never meant to be a one-season affair.

We went 4-13 last season, were 3-10 in games decided by one possession, and as recently as January, we had Trevor Baalke as our GM and a toxic culture.

We're currently sitting at 5-4, and we're 4-2 in games decided by a touchdown or less. We beat San Francisco on the road and beat the 5-time AFC Champion (KC) at home for MNF.

All this with a complete gutting of the front office and coaching staff, new schemes on both sides of the ball, bad early injury luck, and about 600 dropped passes.

Defense broke a franchise record for takeaways, run game has shown flashes of brilliance, and we have a kicker who can stretch the field like no one ever before seen in NFL history.

No universe where what we're seeing isn't a marked improvement over last season, and no reason to not believe that Gladstone is going to move away from anyone who doesn't produce after this year.

Famous Bobby Bowden quote - "You lose by a lot, and then you lose by a little, and then you win by a little, and then you win by a lot."

I think Trevor Lawrence's absolute best-case ceiling is going to be top-of-mid tier with his decision making and carelessness with the ball, but also, he's dealing with pressure nearly every play and (I believe) the highest number of drops in the league as well. Not at all ready to give up on him yet and watch him to move to another team and excel.

As long as we're improving year-over-year, and addressing the gaps in the offseason, I'm perfectly fine with a rebuild that takes another year or two.
