Is it certain that Trevor Lawrence is skipping his senior year and declaring for the draft? What a kick in the you-knows it would be for the Jags if he doesn't enter the draft this year.

I didn't catch the games, just the final scores tonight.

Looks like Trevor & Co. got blown out.  Was that on him or other team elements?

Meanwhile, Fields and Jones both led their teams to impressive wins.  Is their stock rising relative to Lawrence?  He has now been on the losing side of championship games two years in a row.  I note both times were to SEC teams.

Meanwhile, the ACC is once again faring poorly in inter-conference bowl games.  Clemson and Notre Dame, the ACC leaders, played ACC schedules that made their regular seasons look good but then were "no shows" tonight.  ACC #3 Miami also lost to a lower ranked team.  Seems the ACC remains, more than not, notches below other Power 5 conferences most years.
I wouldn't judge anything off the Miami loss. Their top two defensive players are going pro and did not play, meaning there was a defensive adjustment, no pass rush initially and they were down 21-0 quick before settling in. Same type of them with the beat down UF took.

Speaking of last night, Fields looked a lot better than Lawrence. If Lawrence stays, Fields is a good alternative.

the opposite was true in last year's semi-final game

Would counter that Fields had a ton of help last night, and Lawrence had none.

Clemson's OC was out, and the line was trash.

Despite that, Lawrence still had a fantastic line.

Fields was dealing with a secondary for Clemson as bad as you're gonna see in a game, and at least two of his touchdowns probably should have been interceptions.

Would be THRILLED to have Fields in different circumstances, but hope we don't do anything crazy/Jaggish.

Lawrence is the guy.

Looks like Urban Meyer might be the other guy  ???

As of tonight, the top 5 ACC teams have all lost in bowl games.

^ The ACC lost all of their bowl games this year. But to be fair (to your quoted post) the ACC did really well in bowl games just a few years ago.

Any comments from Dabo on voting OSU at the #11 spot prior to that beat down?

What does everyone think of the Urban Meyers rumors?  I heard tonight that he was offered the job and is looking for possible assistant coaches... he would even be picking the GM...

He'd probably end up like Nick Saban but bring it on. The Jags could use some sort of excitement with the actual team heading into next season.

Interesting look at the Urban Meyer rumors, especially the part about the Rooney Rule.
Quote
per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport — Meyer is lining up a staff with the expectation that he'll take over in Jacksonville.

That's problematic on a number of levels.

The first issue is transactional. The Jaguars have to actually fire Marrone before Meyer can begin hiring anyone. It is common for a coach to extend feelers for potential staff member, in the event he lands a job opening. It's not a great look that Meyer's efforts are now in the public eye when Marrone is still in place. Meyer couldn't just — you know — wait a day until the Marrone firing is official? Honestly, that's just rude.

But then there's the more substantial problem: The Rooney Rule. NFL teams must interview at least one diverse candidate before they make a decision to hire a coach. Meyer is a white man, and therefore doesn't fall in that category. If Meyer expects to take the job — and the Jaguars have given him that impression — Jacksonville may have bypassed The Rooney Rule, which the NFL put in place for a league where roughly 70% of players are Black, per NBC News, but where there are just three Black head coaches (Pittsburgh's Mike Tomlin, L.A.'s Anthony Lynn with the Chargers and Miami's Brian Flores) and one Latino head coach (Washington's Ron Rivera)

There are other concerns in the article.

Snaketoz

I think Urban Meyer has a good record as a coach and has coached national champions 3X.  However, I wouldn't won't him.  He has a lot of baggage, health issues, both physical and mental. I like the idea of hiring from within the league.  My may concern is a GM with some real talent at picking talent.

I would prefer an NFL seasoned coach picked by a GM with NFL experience.

Lostwave

The Urban Meyer rumors are just rumors (fake news).  Not saying it won't or can't happen, but the only person who has a clue of who will be the GM is Shad Khan.  And until the GM is chosen, its very unlikely that a deal will be made with a coach.  Based on these rumors, I wouldn't be surprised if Meyer has talked with Khan.  But I would be shocked if Khan hires a coach before GM, unless we are going to go without a GM again.

I am sure a decision hasn't been made yet.  All we know right now is that it won't be Marrone.  Even Rappaports article that everyone is quoting is only speculative about Meyer.

QuoteIf Meyer is not the eventual choice, or decides to stay retired, Jacksonville is expected to look hard at the offensive side of the ball. Ohio State coach Ryan Day, whose team is currently set to face Alabama in the NCAA National Title game, is also set to receive interest from the Jaguars.

Meyer has weighed big-time job opportunities in the past, with the University of Texas being the most recent. Over the past two years, NFL head coaching jobs are said to have intrigued him.

However, Meyer has not firmly committed to coaching at all next year. Currently, he is a Fox Sports college football analyst and to grab any job would take him away from his family, including his grandchildren.
