It's unlikely any team would go 1-13 (and possibly, or likely, worse) just because they have a sub-par quarterback. I can see Jax pinning its hopes on landing Lawrence and then still suffering a disappointing season next year.

I appreciate that no one is saying the *only* problem is the quarterback, of course. But the focus (from both sets of fans) seems to be on whether or not the Jaguars or the Jets will sign Lawrence. He could end up being another Tim Tebow or Johnny Football.

While true, you either have a franchise QB or your don't and you don't stop drafting/searching for one until you do. Franchise QB's hide flaws that teams without cannot hide. The Chiefs, Seahawks, and Packers defenses using advanced metrics are mediocre at best yet here we are. This fanbase has been w/o a true difference maker at the position for so long that we forget just how important it is to have one.

Incredible day for Jags' fans, but I'm gonna hold my excitement until Trevor Lawrence is actually suited up in a Jags uniform. Not sure a prospect has ever had this much leverage going into a draft. This franchise has to be the biggest dumpster fire in the NFL over the last decade. We've got no track record of developing a first round quarterback. The NFLPA has actively warned players to not come to Jacksonville. We've retained literally zero of our first round picks. O-line can't protect an old woman crossing Bay Street from two JTA clown cars traveling 8 mph. Jets are a dumpster fire too, but at least they offer about twenty times the opportunity for building his brand and endorsement potential outside of football.

Call me a pessimist, but I think it's 50/50 at best that he'd actually sign to play for the franchise in the state that it's currently in.

Almost think the Jags would need to try to throw $10 million a season and personnel decisions to Dabo to lock it in.
My main concern is the ownership and the coaching. They sorely need to get that right.

However I don't think coming here would be the worst situation for Lawrence. Theres some good young players at the skill positions, we have a ton of cap space and draft picks. Its not a harsh weather city and the media environment is pretty lean compared to a big market. For a guy who has lived in the South all his life there won't be really any major lifestyle adjustment for him coming here.

I'd take Brian Daboll from the Bills personally. Has to be an offensive minded guy. I don't hate Doug Marrone and can see him actually getting a job elsewhere as a HC again but there needs to be a fresh start and the slate wiped clean.

At the very least Trevor Lawrence should help with ticket sales!

I think it was Bear Bryant who said, "Offense wins games, defense wins championships" (or something like that). I have little faith in a so-called "franchise quarterback" being the solution for any team that doesn't sort out its less-glamorous positions. As a lifelong Miami Dolphins fan, I suffered through the Marino years. It was great watching one of the best quarterbacks of all time ply his trade - but it didn't to anything but heartbreak.

I bet Minshew is good enough to succeed if he is in the right setup.

Who would you nominate for GM and coach?

I'll start with Elliot Wolfe and Eric Bienemy...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Don Shula and Dan Marino. I realise that Shula is dead, but I think he might be a god or something, so I'm pretty sure he can swing it.

I think there will be no issue with him signing, assuming they hire a GM with a decent resume and the coaching staff is gone. Assuming new GM, coaching staff, etc., it's actually a nice situation for a young QB.

The Jaguars did it! 1st pick for a franchise QB. Unbelievable!

Not really unbelievable they have the first pick.  They suck.  They have not picked yet.  They can still screw it up.  Scenario:  they hire Urban who insists on Justin Fields over Trevor Lawrence.

They can also select either one of these guys and ruin their career. There's nothing about the Jags franchise that says they're striking lighting in a bottle by having the first pick in the draft for sucking this bad.

This isn't going to happen. Regardless of the coach or GM, the Jaguars are drafting Lawrence.

But the Jaguars have never had a franchise QB. This is much different.

And every time the Rams lose we move up a spot with that second first round pick.  Love it.  New GM, new coaching regime, lots of draft picks, and tons of cap space.  Perfect.
