Let me re phrase that: "Waste of money."

Westbrook yes!

Next year if BB makes this team they owe him $18,000,000 correct?

Another waste of money.................................

Have they won a home game yet this year?

It's $19.053M, but I don't think he'll get that.

There's a couple of moving parts:  How much do we want to tie into a FA QB?  Is that even a requirement to the playoffs with our running game and offensive scheme?  If we dump $80M into a QB that may or may not work out, where do we have to cut to get there?

If we make the playoffs and BB5 continues to get better in this system, I think he'll probably get a 5 year deal, to the tune of an average of $15M / yr, frontloaded so that we have an out in 2 years with minimal to zero cap hit.  We'll basically front him $30-35M in guaranteed money for another 2 years or let him walk completely and test the market.

What's next, Brett Favre?

Just saw that 49ers got Jimmy Garappolo for a second round draft choice in 2018..  Man he might have been a great fit here.

Damn.

Another interesting aspect of this season is the respect the media has been giving.  Before when we had league leading offensive or defensive players, rarely would they receive mention among respective MVP candidates but that is certainly not the case this season.  Not only are Campbell and Ramsey mentioned but are typically the expected winners.

They managed to win in Jax. Is this Bortles a fluke based on playing against loose coverage or is he really improving behind a good offensive line? Also, it seems that Ramsey is engaging in some serious psychological warfare to elicit such a response from Green. He went a bit far in this instance, but it did remove their best player from the game...

I sure hope it´s not a fluke, but damn I´m conflicted.

On the one hand, I obviously want Bortles to perform well...he is nothing short of the KEY to taking this team to the post-season.

On the other hand, I really don´t believe Bortles is the long-term QB solution that´ll take us to the next level. So...I don´t want him to perform well enough whereby we pick him up for another few years on a big money contract. I don´t want the front office to forget we need a QB next year - whether via draft or trade.

So...take us to the post-season Bortles, but just barely fuck up enough so the team goes after a REAL, long term solution QB once this season is over!

(Seeing what Philly is doing, and what Houston did - before the freak injury - with their QBs makes me want to cry. God knows how good we´d be with a killer good QB!! Hell, I wish we got the Pat´s backup while we had the chance.)

Would have liked to see us try and get Garappolo from NE. Maybe offer up our 2018 first round pick for him.  That way we get a guy who has been on an NFL roster for 3 years and learned under Tom Brady without having to pay the $18,000,000 for BB.

Also cannot believe this news out of Houston:

"Houston signed quarterback Josh Johnson, who last appeared with the Bengals in 2013 but has not thrown a pass since 2011, after the team released Matt McGloin. McGloin was signed after star rookie Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending knee injury during practice last week, which thrust backup Tom Savage into the starting role. Watson and Savage were the only two quarterbacks on the active roster, which forced the team to sign another signal caller."

Wow. Pretty much proving Kaep's collusion case for him...................................

Garoppolo is a free agent after this year.  If he performs reasonably well, he will command $18 million too, or something close to it.

Even average QB play doesn't come at a discount.  Look what Houston paid Osweiler last offseason.
The tourist would realize at once that he had struck the Land of Flowers - the City Beautiful!

I'm really glad Garoppolo is on with another team.  This will help prove or disprove the Patriot's Curse.   I didn't know much about the guy coming out of college, but after (recently) reading enough about him, he was a highly rated pick (not as highly rated as Bortles BTW) and it was a shock that he lasted in the draft as long as he did.

Now to see if the draftniks were right and the few flashes we've seen are true talent or if they're 'system' throws.

If he's great, prepare for the 'I told you so's.  If he fails to light it up, what will the excuse be?

Or proving that his last 2 years in SF weren't exactly a fluke.

MM for GM - he sees what every NFL personnel man does not.

What about 3 years with $40M guaranteed?

Gives us time to draft and develop (often said, never done in this town) a QB that will have a year left on their rookie deal so we'll have a good idea if they can start or not - assuming Bortles plays the way he's been playing.  With the coaching staff in place for the next few years, there's no reason to believe he won't continue to progress in Hackett's system.

In a non-QB context, see also the "Dante Fowler, SuperBust!" narrative that prevailed until, oh, 2 PM on September 10.
