The Jacksonville Jaguars

Of course, but the Jags aren't going anywhere anytime soon. A more realistic goal would be getting to a +.500 season and perhaps a wildcard playoff spot.

Colin Kaepernick is available... could probably get him cheap.  Nice back up, change of pace, possibly someone who could push Bortles...

No way the Duval mouth-breathers would accept Kaepernick after his galling conduct of standing up for what he believes in while being personally wealthy.

Putting Kaepernick's non-football related things aside, do you really think he's the guy to lead the Jags to the promised land? I certainly don't. While Bortles isn't great, having an issue at quarterback doesn't automatically make those who are available great. Sometimes you just need to deal with what you have until something better comes along.

Who said anything about the promised land??  I said capable back up, change of pace... perhaps he could push Bortles... Right now we have Henne.  He aint pushing anyone... not even sure he is a capable backup...

Generally if you want a veteran back up to help your starter, you get someone that you have someone that can show your young starter how to lead on and off the field. Not sure Kaepernick fits that bill.

There is no QB help on the way, at least not in free agency.

That makes sense for a rookie... if Bortles still needs a vet to hold his hand then the Jags drafted the wrong guy.  Jim McMahaon backed up Favre when  he won the Super Bowl.  There are plenty of examples of veteran QBs backing up young QBs... again... good health... good arm and possibly cheap.

Maybe, but Kaepernick's drama-to-talent ratio is pretty unfavorable.

As the post after yours suggests, any discussion of him, let alone criticism, would be seen as a call to act superior and indignant by his fellow liberal rich kids ;)

No, it doesn't suggest that at all, actually. It displays the glaring, indefensible ignorance of his critics, who think that just because one has become wealthy, one cannot criticize the injustices perpetrated against black people in this country.  But, good try.

All your comment displays is you acting superior and indignant to a criticism of Kaepernick that literally no one in this discussion actually made. It proves that there's a drama factor to the guy that isn't avoidable - even people who apparently support him can't refrain from inserting the pledge of allegiance thing into discussions about him. Better players than him have lost opportunities and even careers due to drama.

Kaep was beat out by Blaine Gabbert to start the season....before his protests...I'm good. RGIII, on the other hand, looked decent in the final three games after returning from injury with Cleveland and actually won a game with a winless team. There is some potential there to me as a backup that could make some things happen if Bortles struggles again. He is also only 27 still.

That statement alone should eliminate any discussion Kaep as a backup QB.  It should make him unemployable in the NFL.  Really, if you can't beat out Blaine Gabbert!!!!

lol... true.  But... SF might have been as dysfunctional as Cleveland that year.  The other big difference is... Kap has played well in the not too distant past.  Gabbert never has.  Not really trying to make a case for Kap or anyone else but we need a backup and I really do not think Henne is it anymore.  I would imagine we pick up a late round QB but he will be a project type third stringer... Osweiller?  Cutler? McCown?  Fitzpatrick?

I am just glad the team didn't go and sign Mike Glennon to a multi dollar deal. *whew*

I think the backup option is gonna have to be someone who has a bit of winning record who can mentor Blake.

Eagles are releasing Chase Daniel

at his request....

QuoteWith the signing of Foles, Chase Daniel asked for his release and the team obliged later Monday.

"Yes, we did, and it was mutual," Daniel told Philadelphia's 94 WIP when asked if he requested to be released by the Eagles. "I believe I'm a starter in this league."

Chase Daniel (who Blaine Gabbert backed up at Mizzou) is not a starter. Everywhere he has gone, he has been unable to beat the #1, including Carson Wentz. I think its great he still has ambition after so many years as a backup, and the fact he has lasted this long when his vision of the field has been questioned due to his lack of height.

If anything he might land in the Redskins camp with the situation with Cousins. Personally, I think he would be a great backup to Drew Brees, they have very similar styles.

I love Mark Lamping and think that he's great, and we are very fortunate to have a top flight team prez, but he gotta drop the whole "Green Bay of the South" nonsense (State of the Jags conference). I dunno who came up with that, but it makes me wanna throw up in my mouth. So it's NOTHING to do here in Jax outside of football, thanks "GB of the South" coiner....

Don't get me wrong, Green Bay is a very special place with very passionate fans that come from all over the state; it's like the football mecca. No major league sports city is anything like Green Bay. GB makes even Winnipeg look pretty large in comparison. If compared and emulated to any city, Jax should be compared to Buffalo (and maybe NOLA to a lesser extent), a hardcore football small market.

Comparing Jacksonville to Green Bay with football always have been very weird to me. It's kinda dissing Jax (the two cities are very different in every kinda way; population, one is very transient etc). In another way it's very unfair to Jax for comparing us to the lofty ancient legacy of Green Bay football. We would have to be smaller in pop, and the only team in the state to emulate GB, and we all know that's not the case.

I think what he is referring to is making the stadium district a destination.  The Packers and Lambeau Field undoubtedly have the advantage of history on their side.  It is a destination for football fans worldwide.  It would NOT be however without the many upgrades and upkeep over the years.  For many years was bare bones similar to the old Gator Bowl...

The Packers disadvantage is not having a deep pockets owner and the tiny size of the city.  The Packers learned in the late eighties they needed multiple revenue streams to be successful... The idea of Lambeau as a destination began to take shape...  Museums, gift shops, stadium renovations, expansions, fan experience enhancements.  The Packers bought properties surrounding the stadium and began the TitleTown district. https://youtu.be/9TESJ2FYF58 The district will include at least one hotel, a brewery, meeting spaces, recreation area including skate park and tube slide, and an array of shops.

This is what I think Lamping is referring to... The stadium district as a destination... for both the Jags... and Jacksonville...
