Pretty sure former Jags Coach Jack Del Rio had a great time yesterday.

Oakland is a very similar franchise to Jacksonville until recently. They have found a way to win and we have not.

It's pretty simple. Carr/Cooper/Mack are a lot better than Bortles/Lee/Fowler.

I'm only posting this here because it's related to the Jaguars, but I saw Mark Lamping at the game. He was talking to someone (I'm assuming with Jax Gov) in the 400 section. I was walking behind them and he was describing renovations they'd like to do. Obviously, these won't be happening anytime soon, if at all, but what I heard Mark describe mostly revolved around widening the walkways by 2-3 times in the 400's sections to give people more room to walk / allow more vendors.

Bortles may still be salvageable, but if it's going to happen, it won't be with this coaching regime.

Greg Olson was such a puzzling hire in the first place. After 2014, the Jaguars fire Jedd Fisch after the Jaguars finished with the second worst offense in the NFL.

They then hire the guy who was the offensive coordinator for THE WORST offense in the NFL.

Olsen is known for his development of QB's. That is why he was hired. Obviously not all QB's are equal, so how they respond to Olsen isnt the same.

Jedd Fisch tried to run a particular offense without the right personnel. Too many OC's are married to their system and less to their assets. This usually leads to low output and that is why is he not here anymore. Olsen seems to be pushing the pass more due to the offensive line issues. And that is why they hired Doug Marrone. Marrone is a good coach, but again he makes the best out of the assets on the field.

But being candid, Gus ability to get the best every week out of his team may be getting less effective.  Losing can bring a team down after awhile no matter what anyone says.

Now the players are taking on the fans. Oof.

"When you hear the atmosphere of when we step out on the field, when we go to punt or before halftime when Blake takes a knee and you hear the booing, it's kind of funny to me," Allen Robinson said. "It's funny that we get our best home-field advantage when we go to Wembley [Stadium].

The overwhelming majority agree with Shad for damn good reason. The overreactions about Gus almost always forget context. And context, with the Jaguars situation Gus came into, cannot be overlooked.

What a joke.  12-35 (soon to be 12-36).  No coach in the history of the NFL has ever been given a 4th year with that poor of a record.

* * *

An absolute joke that Gus is coming back.  Great guy, terrible Head Coach.

Hmmmm . . . context, context, context. This is from Peter King's MMQB this morning:

http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2015/12/29/chip-kelly-fired-philadelphia-eagles-nfl-mailbag

QuoteSo now I think back. To Chuck Noll, 12-30 in his first three seasons, who was despised by franchise quarterback Terry Bradshaw early—and disliked for most of their time together. To Bill Belichick, who ran off Bernie Kosar and was 20-28 in his first three years in Cleveland and who was affected by more than just the quarterback.

Not really that different from Gus Bradley, who is operating in an era with greater difficulty in a small market that had fallen on hard times and became a franchise that players wanted to avoid.

If you're seriously paying attention, IMHO, you see that the offense has been fixed and DEFENSIVE PLAYERS in the NFL objectively know that. Free agents on the D are much more likely to come to Jax now, knowing that the offense can put points on the board.

The Jags have a smart plan. Yes, they underachieved in the Wins column but that was never the important point this season. The important component has been attained. Now, we're going to get another high draft pick this season and I wouldn't be surprised if nearly all, if not all, picks are on defense. The first two will likely be immediate starters; add Dante to the mix and that gives you -- at a minimum -- three new athletic starters on defense next season, maybe more.

And another year to turn superior athlete Nick Marshall into a more competent defensive back.

Haha.

People should have seen this season coming from light years away.
So I said to him: Arthur, Artie come on, why does the salesman have to die? Change the title; The life of a salesman. That's what people want to see.

Gus has lost all control of the team.

I forgive ARob, he's speaking out of frustration, but I don't forgive the complete lack of accountability and discipline.

That's on leadership, especially with such a young team.

Accountability should be the furthest word associated with this regime.  They gave a 12-36 coach a contract extension.  Who can respect that accountability?

It was surprising. But this is also the regime that replaced the offensive coordinator with the 31st rated offense with the offensive coordinator with the 32nd rated offense.

There comes a time in a professional football player's life when making lots of money doesn't make-up for playing on such a pitiful team as the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Many of the Jag's better players would give money back to play on a team that wins, has the reputation of a winner, and lives in a city that idolizes them.  Jacksonville COULD have been a football crazy, player idolizing, die hard fan place.  Where we dropped the ball was not really our fault.  We are victims of time.  Had we obtained a team back when Green Bay, Chicago, or Washington DC did, when players made a few hundred dollars a season and the tv wasn't invented, we would be ok now.  We are a victim of television market size, population, per capita income, and geography.  We can't do anything about our size, but the Jags could get us a coaching staff and the best players available.  The rest will come with time.  Shad, get off your wallet and get Bill Cower or one of the other proven coaches and give us something we can be proud of.

Jaguars owner gifts $1 million to Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center for breast cancer prevention
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Yeah, I don't think Khan is afraid of spending. But he has been way, way, way too patient with Bradley. He should have been gone last year.

Snaketoz

It was very nice of Khan to help out breast cancer and the cancer center, but most winning owners do that too.  I'm sure one of the reasons to get the current coach and management was the costs.  I believe he needs to lure and proven coach and a GM with proven talent.

It's two pools of money: Khan's personal money, and Jags money. Owners can't really spend their own money on their team. However, Khan's been spending the Jags money as much as any team. This was the first year they spent under the mark, and they've said it's to free up room for next year now that they've built up their player base. Long story short, whatever the thing is with Bradley, it's not about the money.

You seem to be referring to the salary cap...  That only applies to players.  Owners can spend as much as they want on facilities and coaches etc... just ask the Cowboys owner... or conversely the Bills owner...

They usually don't want to tie their personal money up into their team investments. Most of the spending on facilities and whatnot is from the teams' revenues, which are a lot high than they could ever spend on players alone. In Khan's case, I'm pretty sure that every penny he's spent on the Jags has been Jags money. At any rate, until this year, Khan was spending on the team (including facilities) along with the rest of them.
