That is a brutal schedule. Sheesh.

The away schedule isn't that bad, but we might not see a win at home with that schedule.

The Jags 2016 opponents have been determined.

Home: Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts (Oct. 2 in London), Tennessee Titans, Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Baltimore Ravens

Just one correction. Los Angeles Chargers.

To say that we might not win one at home is very dramatic. With a 5-11 Jags team this year, we beat Indy & Tennessee at home, and Bmore on the road. It all depends how we do in the draft/free agency, and how everyone else does (not every team moves in a positive direction or stays in prime form, with injuries etc).

@Rachel - What kind of satisfaction are you getting from the "told-you-so" and pissing on people's flames?  Let them have hope.  Supporting the local football team is tough without it.

This is a fun thread to read through from page 1...hindsight and all.

My thoughts looking towards next season is that David and Gus can get us to the playoffs.

There has been marked improvement since the Gene Gene days.  (BTW how many of you still think he's the "bees knees"? :o ) Ha, Ha...

But really reading through this thread helps remind us where we were vs where we are.  Although the W/L record is about the same, the organization as a whole is light years ahead imo.

The one same old story is we need a big mean blocking machine of an OL up front.  OL play is better than before but marginally.   I feel that is most important to address in the off season.  This offense can score a lot of points with the weapons currently on the roster.  Blake needs more time and the run game needs more holes.  Picking up 1st downs and staying on the field will help defensively.

Thank god. Hopefully Bradley hired someone from outside but that might be tough considering he is a lame duck coach.

Elwood

Every coach in the NFL is a lame duck coach. Ownership can make a change at an time, contract or no contract. Bradley is in no better or worse position than the next guy. Winning cures all...

False.  It is much more desirable to be on a staff with a new coach or a tenured coach.  Gus is in the worst possible position with one foot out the door and a big ultimatum looming over head...

RattlerGator

Well, I wouldn't say he's in the worst possible position. I don't think he's even close to that. I suspect they sacrificed Babich so the wolves will have something to chew on. Injuries and lack of quality players killed the defense (Poz if a fan favorite at linebacker but we have to upgrade there IMHO). Gus clearly has the support of Shad Khan, and he's the owner who clearly believes in what Dave Caldwell has scripted.

That's not a bad position to be in. Gus is in much better position with the owner than with the fans, which is much preferable than the other way around.

InnerCityPressure

As far as I have seen, no other D coordinators have been fired (not sure if Saints will be in the market).  So, all other openings will be new coaching staffs or vacancies left by DCs from successful organizations who have been hired as head coaches.  We really might be the last place someone wants to come (other than Cleveland, which doesn't even count right now).

I'm pretty sure that I'm leaning Elwood's way on this one.

The thing that FAs will have seen is a steady-handed owner that's not going to blow things up after a bad season (or three) when a few bad seasons were expected.  Also the fact that we're a young team on the rise in a bad division that plays home games in Florida with a guaranteed trip to Europe doesn't really hurt either.

How many FAs were brought in Tomasula's first year because based on him being a 'new coach' with a new 4 year contract?  How'd that work out?

A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I agree with ICP. He's talking about hiring a DC not signing FAs. Gus is indeed in the "worst possible position" to attract a top DC. But we'll see...I don't think it will be that big of a deal ultimately.

That other thread mentioning the Rams (not to mention Raiders and Chargers) applying to go to LA. Then follows the dumb hysteria that some STILL believes to this day that London and freaking St Louis are a threat to Jax....Still holding on to that mess...I wasn't gonna touch that garbage with a ten foot pole...I'm happy to let that thread die like it deserves to (not concerning it's original intent [although covered already repeatedly on the Other NFL News thread], but the trolling Jax moving BS that it turned into).
