The Jacksonville Jaguars

Reminds of me of some type of arena bowl helmet. Oh well. Uniforms are on point.

I don't have a problem with the helmet and I think I understand why they went with it -- differentiation. They have been desperately looking to set this franchise apart from the others because of our small-market status. The helmet does that.

It *is* unquestionably unique, and the NFL was heavily involved in its development, I seem to recall.

Win some more games in the near future (play at least .500 ball) and a bunch more people will start accepting the helmet as pretty cool.

QuoteThe jersey looks good but the helmet is just atrocious.

The helmets are cartoonish. The old logo was fearsome, these new ones are as laughable as the Jaguars play on the field. I agree, go all black, until you can prove you can wear a cartoon logo.

The old helmets might have looked better, but calling the old Percocet Cat logo "fearsome" is a stretch. Take a look at those dead eyes and Cheetos shaped spots. It was a lazy design and it certainly matched the mood of the franchise, loaded on anti-depressants and numb to the downward spiral orchestrated by Gene Smith. To me, the new logo is a marked improvement. Unfortunately, it's hamstrung by those awful helmets. If they were a solid color, either flat black or slightly shimmering like the old design, the uniforms wouldn't look half bad. Hell, I'd bet the two-tone look might actually work if they played around with the gradient. Right now it looks like it was designed by a 6 year old playing with Photoshop for the first time.

One fan made the comment that the old cat looks like it's high compared to the new one.

The helmet is a disaster, no two ways about it. What is it supposed to be? Jaguars in the wild are known for hiding and pouncing on their prey, but if that was what they are going for, then it's backwards (the Jaguar is jumping into the darkness). There's really not even a fade to it; it's as if they lined them all up, started painting and ran out of paint. Plus, who uses matte paint on a helmet?

There's a five year waiting period on changing uniform components, so 2018 is the soonest we'll see new helmets.

Actually, it's kind of a 'thing' and has been for a few years.  It's not so much a matte paint, just a softer feeling plastic with a matte finish.

I'm sure there's a TED talk about it somewhere...  ;)

You know, if you gave the helmet a chance you'd see that the Jaguar isn't JUMPING into darkness, it's LURKING just behind the darkness -- and that's entirely appropriate. But, hell, it's hip to bash the helmet. Cool.

^^^I'm the biggest Jaguar homer there is, after 2 years I'm still not feeling helmet to say the least. If the fade pattern looked as half as seamless as this: http://www.sportslogos.net/logos/view/15981212013/Jacksonville_Jaguars/2013/Helmet_Logo it would be better, but the problem is it looks like damn near a bucket of gold paint tipped over, and coated the back of a black helmet.

Overall, I think that the two-toned helmet concept is a complete dismal failure, and hopefully the Jags address this folly sooner than later by making a all black or all gold helmet. This is clearly a case where we out thought ourselves. That being said, if we would've painted the damn helmet with a pink and yellow two-toned design, I'm still a fan for life.

i love the Jaguar's uniforms, but I can't stand the gold on the helmets. It just looks ridiculous. That being said, I'm not completely against having a two tone helmet. The redesigned helmet from scout.com looks really good.

Helmets?....We're talkin' about, helmets? Really??? They win some games and nobody will care what the helmet looks like. It's a football helmet, not a fashion statement.

So, I think I've given them a chance. I've had season tickets since 2004 (when I got my first job out of college), and I'm one of the biggest Jaguars homers around, and I like the entire rest of the uniform. It's just the helmet. Sorry, don't like.

Haha-I'm sure there is!

I know matte is a new thing, but more of a college thing, not as much a pro thing though.

Kind of what they said about QBs in the pistol and spreading the WRs from sideline to sideline, too.
