Because we don't have a convention center attached to Ever Bank Field.

When we played the Rams last season, I could not believe how bland it looked.. Then reading about ther stadium siutation I was like OH! Thats why it looks like they are playing football in the Prime Osborn!  ;D That has to be the most bland atmosphere in the entire league. Ive read some Rams fan complain about how depressing it looks.

It hosts football, soccer, concerts, conventions. At the end of the Wikipedia article there is a detail on the battle between the Rams and the STL Convention people. And a correction, STL paid $30 million, not $13 million 5 years ago to fix it up.

A very large arena. (66,000 for football) It is closer in concept to the old Metrodome/Silverdome but has a fixed solid roof instead of the cable stayed inflated ones that Minnesota and Detroit had.

It has two major issues. Not enough luxury boxes and not enough parking.  Most NFL teams rake their share of dough through the revenue sharing on the boxes and the parking.

It was built in a hurry and on a budget when St Louis decided to make a run to entice an NFL team. Carroll Rosenbloom, owner of the then LA Rams was having troubles getting a better stadium deal than the Olympic Coliseum.  He was wise as LA after all these years still can't agree on a stadium deal. Private investors are trying.

Wayne Weaver was also wise to defer on the calls from LA trying to get the Jaguars to move.

I don't want to detract from the Jags thread here, you can read more on the dome replacement here:

The CFL's Calgary Stampeders unveiled their new Jacksonville-esque helmet. It looks pretty good (although I'm not a big fan of gradient helmets) and I'm ashamed to say that it looks a lil' better than ours IMO. I guess that I have a 'love hate' take on our new Jaguar helmet; Sometimes I'm okay with it, other times I wish for a solid color.

^ that is vastly better than ours

^^^You're right, esp with that color combination.

The Jags helmet is ugly as hell. I hope they change it to all black eventually.

I love the NFL, but hate how the teams hold cities hostage and make threats to leave if their building isn't improved. The city and state of Missouri are STILL paying off the dome they are currently in and they want them to finance all those improvements?  Not cool. I think Jacksonville is still paying off our original stadium as well. Its like taking out second and third mortgages on houses. Eventually, your balloon for paying back these improvements will burst.

At least the Jaguars foot some of the bill.

Heres another bill according to the city. From  http://jaxdailyrecord.com/home.php

From the The $63 million in EverBank Field improvements will require taxpayers to spend another $1.4 million this year to satisfy requirements of the annual Florida-Georgia game.

Is it really worth it anymore to keep that game? If they can't deal with the smaller stadium, then maybe its time for us to part ways. I am sure back in the day when it was the only game in town it was huge, but now, to me, it is just one of many games and because both teams are on hard times, the games are not that good anymore.

^^^ to many people, including myself, it is.

I think you just described 'fair-weather fan' and 'band-wagon fan' to a 'T'.

The same kinds of people that are afraid to initiate conversation with strangers, lead any type of team into the unknown and typically marry the first person they kiss, cousin or not.

Clears up a lot.

Thanks.
