Why wait for a guy to develop when the majority are solid starters from the get-go.

Which 'can't miss, solid starters' are you referring to:

Andrew Luck has been the only projected "can't miss" QB drafted since Matt Ryan?  Matt Stafford?

I assume you're talking about guys like RGIII, Kaepernick, Wilson, etc...  but none of these guys were drafted to come right in and start, they all just happen to be superior athletes with flexible, adaptive HC/OCs drawing up the plays.  How are the other QBs in Gabbert's class doing?  Locker?  Ponder?  Newton?  Hell, the best of all of them will probably be Dalton.  And he was taken in the 2nd round as well, but a lot of his success can be attributed directly to AJ Green.  We just got Blackmon last year....

The more I think about it, the more that I think that our problem hasn't necessarily been the talent on the field, but the talent on the sidelines that's been our downfall.  Let's take Koetter for example....  His offense at ASU was productive because he had the personnel to run it - a vertical attackl.  He floundered in Jax because Garrard was never, was never going to be, a drop back passer.  He's found success in Atlanta because he has the prototypical QB for the system that he runs.

A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

By no means do I mean that, that guy was available through the draft or free-agency this year. I fully understand we're stuck with Gabbert.

Every QB you listed above save for Ponder & Locker are what I would consider franchise QB's and each one has played at high level from Rookie year on. I would also bet that Ponder & Locker will get benched in the next year or so when their teams give up on them and draft a replacement.

Cam Newton I think may be the exception to the rule of 3 year development. He has unbelievable talent and has lit it up in some games (including his first ever) but has issues it seems between the ears.

Pretty much all coaches are considered great minds when they have a franchise QB. Same on defense... Gregg Williamson spent a year with us before heading to the Saints. Our Defense was atrocious! Then you go to a team that has pass rushers, linebackers and a secondary and you win the SuperBowl.

Take Jim Caldwell... replaces Dungy with Peyton Manning led Colts and goes to the SuperBowl. Loses Peyton Manning and 15 games... get fired. Takes over play calling on the Ravens with Joe Flacco... wins the SuperBowl.

All plays work, if your guys can execute them :-)

In hindsight IMO it was a smart tactical move for the coaches to keep Gabbert in the majority of that KC game. With the NYC MTA turnstile offensive line here in Jax vs the Chiefs relentless pass rush, and this ultra-thin QB roster situation, the last thing that we need is to put in Henne during the 3rd QTR only for him to get hurt too.

I highly doubt the coaches intentionally kept the starter in to avoid injuring the reserve lol

^^^True, although usually in a situation like that when the starting QB is clearly inept and struggling, and the team is getting blown out, often that's when the backup QB usually quickly comes in. It took a long time for Gus to pull the trigger, unlike JDR, or Malarkey would've did. You gotta admit, both of those QBs being hurt could've been plausible (IMO Gabbert was already playing hurt anyway) and that would've been a big time mess.

If they would've pulled Gabbert, he wouldn't be hurt. I think they kept him because they really believed he was the best option for a comeback.

Also, the Raiders have a pretty solid pass rush... I believe they had 4-5 sacks last week. Henne is going to have his work cut out for him.

I think they did'nt pull him because they want to see what he has. They already know, and so does everyone else, that Henne is not a long term option for anyone. They want to see what exactly Gabbert can do, (or cant do for that matter) so we can move on next season and draft a QB if we have to. This is literally his last shot. Period.

Anyone heard anything about the Jags staying on the west coast after the Oakland game?
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

copperfiend

They said they will be staying on the west coast this week between games.

Local FL station apologizes for airing Jaguars game

How bad are the Jacksonville Jaguars? An Orlando TV station posted an on-air apology for having to show the team's game Sunday against the Raiders.

How irrelevant are the Jacksonville Jaguars these days? Try so irrelevant that TV networks in their own home market are apologizing for putting them on TV.

During Sunday's Dolphins-Colts game on Orlando, Fla., CBS affiliate WKMG, this message popped up on the screen:

In accordance with NFL policy, WKMG must carry all Jacksonville Jaguars away games. We apologize for any inconvenience. An explanation of the NFL broadcast policies can be found at clickorlando.com.

Whereas most of the country will get to see the Peyton and Eli Manning face off in the late CBS game, Jacksonville's market, which includes Orlando (roughly two hours away) will be subjected to Jags-Raiders.

If there was ever a time for residents in central and northeast Florida to wish they bought that $99 Madden/NFL Sunday Ticket deal, now would be it.

^^ Double ouch at ESPN posting the story on their front page.

I really dislike the joking around and laughing on the sidelines after a second straight brutal defeat.

I also think that enthusiastically slam dunking the ball over the goal post after a Touchdown is an act best reserved for a game you're going to win.

Loving Jay Cyprien's potential though, guy is going to be awesome.

I probably would feel the same if I was forced to watch a Magic game. I dunno why yall are saying 'Ouch' for, The Jags could've been 2-0 blowing teams out, and that station still would've did the same thing. I surely will not lose any sleep worrying about what freaking Orlando thinks....

thelakelander

I don't blame them. No reason to say ouch, I think we all can admit that the Jags are a very bad watch right now.  That's not a knock on anyone or any city.  It's just reality at this point. Especially if you're talking about a market two hours away down the street.
