no kidding and that is great.  My point was more the quality of play hasn't matched the level of sunburn experienced by those paying this year.

Just a reminder that Jaguars All Access has Shad Khan on right now on CBS47

I feel sorry for the clown that makes comments like that. It's beyond bandwagon to kick a team when they're down. Sign of a true loser. What an ignorant comment. Do yourself a favor and shut your mouth.

If you are a real sports fan (which you clearly aren't) you'd understand losing because every team in every sport does it

Khan's comments on the 1-7 start:

Quote“It’s embarrassing but there are better days ahead. I’m deeply grateful to the fans for supporting us. They’ve done their part. Now we have to do our part.”

“Whether it’s a football team or an auto parts company, you need three things: Right people in the right spots, processing and decision making that’s right and you need support from fans, sponsors or owners. We have to finish the season. You can’t be rushing to judgment. I wish life was that simple, that you could hire and fire people and things would change. I am committed to building a sustainable, winning organization.”

“I’m not a talent evaluator so I’ll let you guys be the judge of that. My job is to get the people who evaluate the talent. Over time, they’re going to get it right. I don’t want to speak on the talent. The results, we know. Obviously, if you’re a Jaguars fans, Jaguars player or coach, front office, this is not a good thing. We have to move on and produce better results.”

I really like the fact that he acknowledged that the fans are doing their part, and that he is embarrassed that the organization is letting them down.

He was very blunt and honest, with out being rude or throwing anyone under the bus. He hit the nail on the head about everything. Very nice to see he acknowledged the fans. Especially about hiring and firing people and things are just gonna change. Hes right, its not that simple. I think alot of fans expected a magical turn around in one season. I for one, did not. I was excited, but remained level headed.

The whole thing is deja vu for me. Back in the 60's N.Bedford Forrest high school, on Jacksonville's west side, played all of the local schools with a playbook that included 3 plays:

1. Run it straight up the middle
2. Run it straight up the middle
3. Run it straight up the middle
However we did have a variant of play number 2:
2B. Run it straight up the middle.

We WERE wearing the paper bags over our heads! Now looking back at those tough years I'm starting to think the old high school might have had a chance against the Jags. They are the only team I've ever seen that was WORSE!

QuoteMy job is to get the people who evaluate the talent.

The time is now.

If Gene Smith is not the evaluator of talent Wayne Weaver thought he was... it is time for him to be moved out and a new GM brought in... right now.  The new GM needs to evaluate the organization... from admin staff to scouts to coaches.  He needs time to evaluate the talent of the players.  He needs time to evaluate the players contracts and decide who to re-sign, extend, and cut.  He needs time to develop a draft and free agent strategy based on his evaluations for the upcoming off season.  If the he wants a coaching staff to fit his vision... he needs time to begin his search.

The time for this is NOW... NOT the end of the season.

I think most would agree that the status quo is simply not a formula for success.  Is it Smiths fault?  Weavers? Del Rio?  Mularkey?

I do know one thing... it IS Khans problem now... and we will soon see what type of owner he is.

My personal prediction is... if the game this Thursday is horrendous as Sundays... Gene Smith is fired and the house cleaning begins...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

It didn't sound like Khan would make a move now at GM. Even if Smith gets fired now, you'd have to have someone in-house like Terry McDonough act as an interim. It's doubtful anybody with an organization now is leaving during the season. Now as soon as the season is over, it's game on. Of all the names I have heard, Marc Ross from the Giants still sounds the best.

I think Khan has a better chance of landing a great GM if he waits till the end of the season (although I realize no one wants it) because he shows stability and support like he discussed.

Off the top of my head... GMs available now... Polian... Wolf... Holmgren.  I bet there are more than a few highly credentialed guys waiting in the wings at some really good franchises... and it is a good bet there will be more than a few GM job openings as the season rolls on.

I think Khan should put the team and the NFL on notice that he is looking for a new GM... then hire him and give him time to evaluate the current product prior to the end of the season.

Brining in a new GM "right now"  wont effect anything that is happening at the moment. What can a new GM do besides evaulate the roster and state how poor it is? Its not like he can draft anybody. Also, if we hire someone from the outside, it wont happen until the offeseaon more than likely. Most team will not permit any interviews during the season. (unless they are currently unemployed). Making a change like that Mid season will only make the fans happy, but it wont affect the team either way. Thats why everyone thought it was odd carolina fired their GM mid season.

As I said... he can evaluate the organization as a whole... from towel boy... to secretaries, to coaching staff, scouting staff, players, players contracts and map out future moves.  How would it hurt the Team if Smith was released now? (or Friday?)

Tacachale

A new GM won't be able to do anything now, and as DD says, all the potential replacements are currently working now anyway. Smith's bags are definitely packed, but firing him now seems tacky and not Khan's style. The only reason Weaver fired Del Rio mid-stream was due to the ownership change. It certainly didn't change the direction of the team much, nor allow us to find a replacement any earlier than the end of the season.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?
