That was strange.  They had the press conference and the networks were all set to televise it and the Jags all of a sudden didn't want it televised.

1:15 news conference to discuss Blackmon's DUI.

Terrible thing he did, but I sincerely hope the franchise doesn't punish the season ticket holders via a suspension.

Doubt the team will (or even can) suspend him for that.

Under the new CBA, the team can not do anything.

Consider the source. Another example of lazy journalism.

I was just talking to a friend of mine about our local media. He stays in texas now. But I was telling him about Blackmon and he said," Oh boy, they are going to be talking about that forever. Jacksonville media runs shit in the ground forever. It makes you want to turn the TV off."

What we should be talking about is Gene Smith's haircut, damn son, get a real cut, perm even, the hair looks like he just stuck his finger in an electric socket. He really went all out for "I'll have another's" DUI press conference.

If the Jags would stop drafting idiots at WR, would not be such an issue. Or why don't we use RBs as WRs, we seem to have less issues with them, and we love Freddie T, besides Mojo was our best WR last year anyway.
And, that $115 will save Jacksonville from financial ruin. - Mayor John Peyton

Time to end this thread u think?, 2012 season.

Well Mojo is not coming to camp. We really dont need this crap right now. We went through enough last year. I really cant stand NFL players not honoring their contract. If I came to my job, demanded more money and threaten to stay home if I didnt get a raise, I would not have a job. He's only hurting himself. He has no clue about the new offense, already has a strained relationship with the new coach and probably will be fined for not showing up. He did have a good year last year, however that was because the team was crappy. Even Taylor said that what hes doing is a little premature. Im at the point its about the team. We dont need anymore distractions.

But the upside, Jennings is getting more playing time which is good for him. And Dejuan Harris is a beast in the making as well.

I'm all about team but I do agree MJD should get a raise. Don't make him the highest paid RB but at least top 5. MJD's stats last year were crazy good when you think about the fact that EVERY team we played knew that we were gonna run him. No one was worried about our passing game at all. So they could stack defenders in the box against the Jags and he still ran for 1600 yards. Until someone proves differently, MJD is still the one and ONLY star on the offense. Right or wrong, you don't treat stars like they are just any other player on your team. The Lakers don't treat Kobe like he's Matt Barnes. Gene Smith should have just kept his mouth shut and not ran his mouth to the press about the situation. That only creates more unnecessary friction. Hopefully it's resolved one way or another before the start of the season. With no MJD this season, we definitely aren't anywhere close to being playoff contenders. We would easily finish 3rd or worse in our division.

^Yes, but he's also signed a contract. It says what it says. If he didn't like the terms, there was no one forcing him to sign it. The team has the leverage here.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

SMoody84

This is a tough situation..  When we extended his rookie contract, MJD had not run for over 1,000 (obviously because he wasn't the starter yet..), but the Jags made him the 3rd highest paid running back in the league..

Since then, he's run for 1,391; 1,324; and 1,606.. and is now, i think, the 7th highest paid back in the league.

Going to be interesting to watch.

I would only disagree because we are no longer a "Run first, and only" Offense anymore. IF you think about his numbers in 2011, you also have to look at how many times he touched the ball compared to other backs in the leauge. That is really the reason why he racked up 1606 yards. Not saying that he didnt plow through stacked boxes, but hes picked the wrong time to this. Alos, I dont believe in giving someone everything they want because they are a star, but thats just me. I agree with what fred said, just go out there and do it again this season. At that point, he will have only one year left in his contract and will have more leverage. Right now he going on a uphill battle.

PS. He was the rushing leader last season and we went 5-11 (3rd worse in the division). Soooo....

I really don't pay too much attention to the argument that "he ran for that many yards and we still sucked". MJD is a good weapon to have on a balanced offense. You can't tell me you have faith in Jennings having a 1000 yard season nor our passing game going from the worst to top 10 either. I'd rather have MJD than any of our other options on the current roster.

Gene just hasn't shown that he knows how to handle contract disputes. No reason Scobee's deal should be taking this long. He totally screwed up us keeping Podlesh. Had we kept him, we wouldn't have needed to draft a punter this year. So that 3rd round pick was wasted. So say we hold our ground with MJD and he goes out and has a big year again and now he's pissed that you didn't want to resign him and he leaves, then you're out looking for another good running back. And not just a GOOD running back. A Pro-Bowl caliber running back.

Never fear... we have Jennings...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."
