Agreed. More than an "Oops" moment. She was "unaware" of the amendment? Really? The mayor needs to do some serious damage control and find a replacement...quickly.

I know right? That was a big "oops my bad" moment. As much as I dislike Kim Daniels on the city council, I must see she was right to fire off about the general counsel last week. This incident just helped her case.

Did Mayor Brown even make a public statement regarding this issue yet?

The lease is the only thing keeping the Jags here and not moving to LA.

Not exactly

I can see that the attitude that 'Jacksonville doesn't deal with carnival people,' is still intact over at the legal department. We already ran Disney, and Busch Gardens off, chasing the Jaguars away would be the coup de gras for our continued, cutting edge success. UNBELIEVABLE!

Mayor Brown withdrew the letter yesterday and sent a letter of apology to Khan.  I think Laquidara should lose her job over this though.

Please explain to me, how anyone (sportsfan or not) would not know that the Jaguars represent a significant revenue stream to the city and its businesses.  That it is talked about often how LA is in need of a team and the team most likely to move is Jacksonville.  How one of the reasons Wayne Weaver took less money with an assurance that Mr. Khan would keep the Jaguars in Jacksonville.  That the LA Dodgers just sold for 2 BILLION DOLLARS (Khan bought the Jags for around $750 Million).  And that you feel it is okay for you to shoot a letter off to them and cancel their lease?

The COJ officials need to remember who pays their checks and who they represent.  Mayor Brown with the Children's Commission/Court House, Councilman Jim Love shutting down new businesses opening and now the General Counsel basically telling a billion dollar business to take a hike.  Who do these people think they are?

I agree with you Cline.

I've typed a few heated emails before after a vendor or contractor or sub has pissed me off, but I'm smart enough to never send them, I just feel the need to vent.

This took a lot more time than banging out a venting email and accidentally hitting the send button.  And one would think that before giving an ultimatum to the city's most visible company, that maybe you should check with the boss first or at least maybe you should make sure your ducks are lined up nice and neatly.  Not only that, but calling out the Jags publicly AND being wrong....  I have to side with the group that thinks she should be fired.

This is definitely one of those career changing OOPS moment.

Very much agreed.  It is totally inexcusable and I can't think of a circumstance that would merit her keeping the position; or at least someone within the city losing a job.

What confidence does an internal mess up like this instill in large corporations who are considering the City and will need to work with the City on incentives, etc?

WORST of all, there was a MONTH between the highly publicized letter was sent out and he Kahn responded, the city couldn't have had a meeting internally in the interim to ensure they were proceeding accurately???

No one's running the Jaguars off. This is a case of the Jags being self-interested and the Mayor's office being uncouth. It will smooth over.

And no one ran Disney off, they never looked at Jacksonville seriously, if they did at all. Not that we should want Disney here, imo.

Definitely.  I'm good with not having Disney here.

Nobody is chasing them away.

I agree. This ws simple to solve. When they got the letter from the Jaguars, Cindy should have call them up and said "Hey, we received your letter and we have a few questions." It could have been resolved right then and there. She's an idoit.

Interesting how things happens. Brown had to basically beg her to stay six months ago. It's doubtful this can all be pinned on her, though.

How so?

She has the files in her building to reference.  There is no excuse for not making sure she was right before, essentially, evicting the Jags.  This has the appearance of someone using a sledgehammer to push in a thumbtack - and she should be dealt with exactly the way she dealt with the Jags.
