Isn't the Sharks new QB the once famous Chris Leak from UF? I thought I read where he went from the CFL to AFL and its a lot different for him. For me, the Sharks are a nice Spring/Summer minor league distraction from the real event in the fall. Khan could have bought the entire AFL league for what he paid for the Jags, so it seems to me that he knows where the real business of football is in Jax.

No he quit the team last week. Omar Jacobs was named the starter for the saturday night game so Leak pouted, took his ball and went home.

+1 for Tania Ganguli.

Good for the Jacksonville Beach police department for admitting their mistake.

Tania is awesome.

+1000 about Tania

And yes, police don't often admit mistakes, and Jax Beach (right or wrong) have a reputation for being a bit ridiculous (for lack of a better word), so this doesn't surprise me a bit.

Tim Tebow pretty much finally confirmed this morning that he chose New York over the Jags.

So, when Tim Tebow stated last Thursday that it was the Broncos decision that he had nothing to do with, he pretty much flat out lied, right?

Two things on this:

1) I hope this kills any hard feelings the local Tebow fans might have toward the Jags.
2) I sincerely hope we boo the guy out of the building when the Jets come here. Like Lebron James returning to Cleveland in 2010 boo him out of the building. Doesn't mean we have to hate him personally, but it's part of the fun of sports, and I hope the city of Jacksonville really lets the guy have it for his decision.

Im dont really care because the Jets are just using him. Khan made a good point, if tebow didnt want to be here, we didnt want him here. I know what it is, he wants to get playing time and would guarentee him that. That would not have been fair to Blaine or Hennie. He would have had to compete with them and he didnt want to do that. Not to mention that the great Timmy lied  :-X

I'm sure Jaxson will have a skit commemorating the occasion when we play the Jets.

Question for you long time Jacksonville residents:

There's a sizeable portion of our population -- not the majority, but I would guess a good 15% -- that either a) are openly disinterested in the Jags, or b) actively knock the franchise at every opportunity and speak as if they want them to leave town.

Where did these people come from?

As in, were there always Jag haters in Jacksonville dating back to the expansion season, or are they a product of the post-Coughlin era?

I believe its a mixture. There were of course the band wagoners when we first got the team of course. As long as we were winning they were there. When we started losing, they packed up and left. That happens. I also think there is a portion of Jacksonville that was upset with what happened with the team after the salary cap fiesco and are still bitter about it.  We went for knocking on the door of the Super Bowl wtith a 5 year old team, to saying " What in the Hell happened!!??" Then there are people who could not stand Del Rio, and Im one of them. Everything went good at first, then we sank AGAIN and he was running the franchise in the ground. Its a mixed bag.

Also, us having such a good team so soon, really was a bad thing. Everyone expectation were set so high, and still are. We are spoiled. We had the best expansion NFL Team in franchise history. so Jacksonville mentality is Win win win win or we are not coming. The Texans took the traditional route. They took 10 years to reach the playoffs. So their fan base never really expected much from the year after year. Us on the other hand, it was completely different.

Per the Times Union we are still talking to this Lee Evans character. Dont know much about him, but that he was good once upon a time when he played for Buffalo (under Mularkey) and his playing declined due to an injury. People say Gene has the final say on these picks, but I see Mularkey written all over  Laurent Robinson and now Lee Evans. But this is not unusual. New coaches often bring in people they are fimilar with or used to play for them. With Jerry Sullivan in the mix, I hope they make the right decisions. Im cool with Robinon, but Lee Evans I have questions about. Im gonna do my research before I make any assumptions... BRB

His stats actually doesnt look too bad. His last year with buffalo he didnt play a full season and he only played half the season with the Ravens, so that would exlpain why his numbers were low the past two years. The injury he had concerns me. Other than, he would be a good band aid. Then pick up a wide out in the draft and we'd be set.

You're really talking about several categories of people here. And yes, this has been in place since the beginning. In fact, it was probably worse back then, but the novelty of having a team galvanized everyone to the point that it didn't matter.

First, in any city you'll get people who just don't care for sports. This is probably the bulk of the apathy and/or antipathy.

Second, we have a high proportion of transplants from other areas. These people often come in with their loyalties already firmly in place. Even among solid Jags fans there are plenty of people who are partially or primarily loyal to their hometown boys.

Third, the Jags are a young team and we've been perpetually mediocre (or worse) for many years. Even among people who are born and raised here, there just hasn't been the opportunity to build the generational loyalty you see with older teams. When you think about it, the very oldest you can be to have had the Jags during your youth is about 30 (ie, just coming into your season ticket buying years). As someone who sported a Dan Marino poster on my wall as a kid, it was very had to route against the Dolphins when we played them in our early years. This issue wanes with each season as more and more of the base grows up teal.

Fourth, there are many sports fans whose loyalties lie elsewhere besides NFL football. This is also something that happens in most cities, primarily if they have "true loves", like the Reds in Cincinnati, the Maple Leafs in Toronto, or the Lakers in LA. The obvious example of this around here is people who primarily follow college football. There are many, many local college fans who are also Jags fans; there are many college fans who just don't care for the Jags (or care less about them); and there is a much smaller, but infuriatingly vocal, segment who are openly antagonistic toward the Jags.

Finally, there are many people who criticize big time sports in general for economic reasons. This one I sympathize with. There are very legitimate issues with the business of big sports.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

As far as Lee Evans go, I remember him toasting Rasheen lots of times when the Jags would play the Bills. I know he was injured last season when he played for the Ravens and I think he had a big drop in that game the Pats beat them in the playoffs last year.

QuoteRavens WR Evans takes blame for loss after dropped pass in end zone
Evans' tearful lament: 'It was an opportunity for us to go to the Super Bowl, and I let it go'

Evans, who was acquired in the preseason from the Buffalo Bills, endured his least productive season as a pro, but appeared to be the hero after quarterback Joe Flacco lofted a pass toward Evans in the right side of the end zone on second-and-1 from the Patriots' 14-yard line.

But as Evans tried to secure the ball with his left arm against his abdomen, rookie cornerback Sterling Moore swiped at the ball and was able to dislodge it from Evans' grasp.

"It wasn't in my mind to slap the ball out," Moore said. "It was just a split-second decision, and I'm glad it worked out. We do that drill every day in practice, but it was the first time I had to use it in a game, and I just took what I learned from practice into the game."

So he definitely has some wear and tear on him. I see him as a bandaid player. Definitely not expected to be a long term solution but add some depth for a year if they sign him.

I can concur with you there. Aside from my opposition to the bringing a team to Jacksonville, I was always a Miami Dolphins fan. I still am. I wasn't going to change that just because Jacksonville got a new football team. I couldn't have, even if I tried. Of course, giving the team a name that sounded like it was chosen by an eight year old for his kickball team and choosing teal and black for the team colors helped.
