I'm with you Ajax.  If we get a Kamerion Wimbley instead of a Williams and maybe use some of the savings toward another useful player (second WR or maybe a CB), I'm more than content.

Duvaldude - yes, Sullivan privately coached Robinson last offseason.

OOOOOOOO...hummm... Insider!! LOL

Bills just signed Mario Williams for 6 years/$100M.  Uh...they can have him at that price.

Yes that is a bit steep. Alot of "analyst' says we overpaid for Robinson, but I think the Robinson deal was smart and they will see how smart it was once the season starts.

Although get ready for the knee jerk reaction Negative Nancys on the 1010XL and 930 the Fox AM airwaves; I guess since we didn't sell 1/4 of the franchise to Mario Williams, or get Tim Tebow to 'take off the tarps', were gonna move to LA in a coupla years, and no one's gonna buy season tickets because Khan failed to make a 'splash' blah, blah, blah, blah, talk etc.

QuoteGM Gene Smith says he would clearly entertain offers for the 7th pick. "I know there's a lot of interest in Tannehill.

QuoteI asked Gene Smith if he plans to address defense in FA. "I am still working on a couple things" but will see what develops

QuoteSmith says adding a 2nd receiver in free agency "is a good possibility. I feel good about where we're at right now."

QuoteGene Smith puts an emphasis on Henne and Laurent Robinson being young and married. Signifies maturity to him.

They just make me laugh. We were smart in free agency.. and logical. Does anyone remember the Eagles " Dream Team" from last year??? Yeah we see how they won the Super Bowl. LMAO I wish people would speak facts. We are ahead on renewals this year compared to last year, and there is a young generation of Jags fan that are buying season tickets. If were moving to LA, so are the Bucs and any other franchise that has ever had hard times. Ive stopped worrying about the media. They will ALWAYS find something negative to say about the Jags. All we can do is prove them wrong like we did from 99-2000.

The Jags will always be hated, regardless of how well or poor we do. Imgaine if we go to the superbowl and win?? They will try to find a reason why the Jags one. They will come up something like " Oh they had an wasy schedule" or talk about how poorly the other team played against us. I am waiting for the day we make it there so I can tell all the haters to SHOVE IT.

Exactly. The Giants had a very uneventful free agency in 2011, and messed around and won the SB. Teams become serious SB contenders by building through the draft, not by making 'Redskin-esque' dumb money moves in free agency.

Interesting tweet from Tony Khan today:

QuoteWhen my father tried to purchase the Rams, Laurent Robinson was a key in our future plans.  We watched him play at ISU (50 miles away) often.

I guess as GM, Gene wears the pants - but Mr. Khan picks them out.

Jerry Sullivan also coached Robinson last off season. He actually is the one who pushed for us to get him. Not to mention that Murlarkey also worked with him briefly in ATL. Everyone was in on this decision.

QuoteHave you been following any free-agent moves around the league so far? Has anything surprised you?

It didn’t surprise me but it bothers me that, clearly, teams and agents were ready to roll at the moment free agency began. That’s technically a violation and it bothers me that it was as flagrant as it was. Maybe that’s another reason Ted Thompson doesn’t favor free agency. It has a sleazy feel to it. As far as what’s happened so far, it should surprise me but never does surprise me how willing teams are to spend huge sums of money on marginal talent. Write it down and tell me a year or two from now if I’m wrong, but I think you’re going to see a lot of the teams that signed players to big deals this week releasing those players a year or two from now and trying to reclaim the cap room they wasted on them. I covered a team in 2008 that literally devastated its future with a wild spending spree in free agency. It dropped $25 million in guaranteed money on two players and both players were gone before the next season began. It was a spending spree that also shaped what the team did in the draft, and the combination of the two produced damaging, long-term effects. I’ve never been a fan of free agency. I like grabbing a guy here and there, but conservatively, judiciously.

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Is he talking about us?? LOL!!! AMen Vic! I am glad to see we have a level headed GM and a smart owner who realize this. One thing I can say about our organization..we learn from our mistakes. We never repeated our salary cap issues and hopefully we dont even relive 2008 again! Going from the playoffs to 5-11 was depressing.

2008 free agency is something I think all Jags fans would love to forget. What a disaster. Final straw for W.W. with the Shack Harris era.

Wacca Pilatka

My one happy memory of the 2008 free agency/draft debacle came from the final home game, when Florence batted away a pass and a guy sitting in front of me boomed out "DRAYTON FLORENCE DID SOMETHING!!!"
The tourist would realize at once that he had struck the Land of Flowers - the City Beautiful!

Loved Vic, hated to see him go.  400 miles away but have my jag seaspm tickets and always will

I think it jacked up how the 49er's are doing Alex Smith. he's coming off the best year of his career and almost took them to the superbowl, and the are drolling and chasing manning. I dont blame him for beginning to look else where to play. Even if they dont get Manning, I would not not trust their staff as far as I could see them If I was him. Other team with no franchise QB I can understand. I know Alex Smith hasnt been exactly elite, but I think he is hitting his prime and they would be dumb to axe him.. Thoughts?

I think whoever "wins" Manning is gonna be sorry.  For some reason, even though Manning doesn't get hit much, I don't see this ending well for him.

Anyway, I agree with you.  If he can get out of there, maybe he should.  I know WHY these teams are chasing Manning like he's Eva Mendes, but I still find it a little repulsive.  He can duke it out in MIA with "Jerrard" for the starting job or something...
