^Another issue with the valuation thing is the impact of market size on franchise value (especially when secondary markets are lumped in). Most of large-market teams are among the consistently most-valuable.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

^Mm-hm, which is why the idea of an LA team is so sexy in the eyes of the NFL

Khan's goal, I hope, is a media exposure avalanche.  MJD is a star, but does anyone besides Rich Eisen really treat him like one?  Not that I know of.  His face should be plastered all over this town and in commercials that aren't Winn Dixie. Our crappy buses and Skyway should have Jags wraps on them.  I think Khan and Lamping realize that, and will want Gene to find other players with enough talent that they can prop then up to celebrity status.  And hopefully they beat Florida and S. Georgia over the head with Jaguars-related ads.

Now that you mention it, I rarely see any Jaguars advertising too far outside of downtown. If so, I must really be overlooking it. I do agree that there should be wraps on JTA buses, Bus shelters, billboards...etc all over Jax and billboard ads all over the Jaguars viewing region. Hopefully we'll start doing so. There should be Jags billboards sprinkled up and down 95 and I-10 between Tallahassee and Orlando.

Its obvious Weaver got cheaper as he got closer to selling the team. Gone was the mural from the side of the Ed Ball building, gone were the banners you would see downtown, there was less advertising at the airport and Landing than in years past, let that be a lesson to us all, the writing is on the wall when the advertising goes in the dump.
And, that $115 will save Jacksonville from financial ruin. - Mayor John Peyton

"This is a game-changer. This is what I mean when I say taking Jacksonville to the next level."
-Mayor Alvin Brown on new video boards at Everbank Field

The Jaguars had a billboard on Beach Blvd near Southside for years. I remember one a few years back (2006?) with Leftwich, Matt Jones, Stroud and a few other players. And one in 2009 with Jones-Drew.

He wasn't cheap last summer when they signed Poz, Session and Landry.

And that mural downtown was gone almost ten years ago.

I may be in the minority, but I'm pretty satisfied with the drafting and FA of the past 3 years.  It may be because in my head, I see the plan in action.

Did the Jaguars have anything to do with upkeep of that mural?  I thought the city just decided to get rid of it because no one on it was still a Jaguar.  A bad decision, I think, but nothing that had to do with Weaver's wallet.  And I saw Jaguar banners all over downtown each of the last three years.

Move to the NFL
In the mid 80s, Kraft had purchased land adjacent to the then used Foxboro Stadium. In the late 80s, Kraft bought the stadium from then owner Billy Sullivan from bankruptcy court for 25 million dollars.

Kraft had been a long time avid football fan of his local team the New England Patriots since their American Football League days before the NFL was formed. He had been a season ticket holder for years and had attended games regularly at their less than stellar facilities.

During the early 90s, the Patriots were really struggling and were rumored to be moving to St. Louis. The then owner, in 1994, offered Kraft the buy out of the lease on the stadium for 75 million dollars, which would have almost guaranteed the Patriots move to a new city. However, luckily for the Patriots, their fans, and for Kraft, he would decline the offer.

Instead, Kraft counter offered the then owner of the Patriots to buy the franchise for $175,000,000 dollars. At the time it was a new NFL record and many people did not understand the purchase, due to the fact that at the time, the Patriots were one of the least valuable franchises in the NFL because of their terrible track record and low fan support.

After the Lisa Olson incident and before Parcells arrived, they were down to 17,000 season ticket holders.

Cheaper as he got closer to selling the team?!  Really?

He gave Garrard a 60 Million Dollar Contract, MJD a 30 Million dollar contract, we have one of the highest paid fullbacks in the league, signed 3 of the top defensive free agents last year to big guaruntees.. C'mon man.

I'm sure he shelled out some of his own money to keep the games on TV the past 2 years as well.

How about when he paid Jerry Porter 10 million dollars 1 year to catch 11 balls?  Yeah, that was cheap.

I just read about Kahns' plan to lower ticket prices for children.  I am continually impressed with not only his forward thinking but also his willingness to accept lower returns initially for a larger payout down the road.  He is a true visionary and we couldn't be luckier.

I also like some of the ideas that the new president of operations has.

GO JAGS!!

He also wants the tarps to come off...And honestly... Were not as far of as we think. I was doing the math (averages). Right now our stadium holds 67,000. With tarps) It takes 52,000 general bowl to be sold to avoid blackouts. If the tarps are removed, then our capcity goes to 77,000. It would then take around 62,000 general bowl to be sold to avoid blackouts. Our average attendance over the past few years, except 2009, has averaged 62,000-65,000. We've been selling enough to avoid blackouts if our stadium was at full capacity, with the tarps on, which leads me to this.... Why the hell are the tarps there???? We sell enough to life blackouts for our actual capcity. Why are the tarps there???? Now given, we sold out at the very last minute this season for various reasons, but still.

Khan said he feels the tarps reminds him of under achieving, and I agree. As much as I love WW, some things he did was not to bright. Instead of being creative and ramp up the marketing for ticket sales, like they have done in recent years, he put on the tarps and thought the problem would solve its self. I give it two years, the tarps are coming off.

huh?

the tarps are there because the difference between 52,000 and 67,000 are the 15,000 club and skybox seats...obviously we're not selling 62,000+ general admission seats for any game....and believe me, no owner is going to give the ticket revenue from that up in exchange for upper level seats.
