actually Gabbert's stats weren't that bad last night...save for the first play of the game when he had happy feet and a few throws into the ground, he looked ok

It is true that statistically, this was his best game. He actually compelted more than half his passes, but they were all very short passes that I probably could have made. I think his longest pass play was 17 yards. It doesn't look like Gabbert gives his receivers enough time to get where they need to be for a long pass. He either starts running out of the pocket way too early or throws it into the ground, or just gets sacked.

Gabbert had some long passes. The 74 yard pass with the Benegals and the long one when we played Carolina. I think they have him handcuffed and wont let him do any deep passes. I actually think he is better at deep passes.

Yeah he actually was very good this game. I dont have any complaints about him actually.

Besides the repeatedly missed 10 yard passes.

And the intentional grounding.

And fumbles.

And slides into the grass when defenders get within ten yards of him.

And spiked passes.

And running for his life/back peddling/wincing/not looking downfield three seconds into each play.

And repeated three and outs.

And the overall worst QB production in the league.

Aside from that, I have no complaints either.

I credit those 14 points far more to MJD than to Gabbert.

He doesn't have time and they don't get open. He isn't a miracle worker.

He had plenty of time last night. I think the O line did very well. The problem is he thinks there is pressure and runs from the pocket every time. if you only give your receivers 2 seconds to get open, then no one is going to ever be open except that short 5 yard pass play or the screen pass.

I really have realized that we have been over critical this entire season. The O-line was actually more efficent last night than they have been the whole season honestly. The play calling was great. Gabbert completed the majority of his passes and the receivers actually did a job. Yes. it wasnt enough to win. But I didnt expect an overnight mircle to occur either. They are working much better as a unit and that is a great start in my book. Ive noticed we expect them to be flawless.. complete every single pass and score on every single drive.... And I hate to tell you that is not going to happen. We made mistakes, and so did San Diego. Rivers was just able to capitolize on our battered handicapped defense and our thin secondary. If we have our defense from three games ago, we would have shut them out.

PS get off gabbert about intentionally grounding the ball. Guess what, Rivers did it too and hes not a rookie!

They were better in the first half and the offense was able to have two long TD drives. In the second half, they stunk and Gabbert got killed. He runs from the pocket because there is pressure.

I was better in the first half because I was next to an intuition van in the parking lot and was able to have 2 nice long thirst quenching sips per cup.  The second half, I had to pay for beer and that stunk and my wallet got killed.  I ran out of the stadium because I was smashed and couldn't handle the pressure of the Jaguars losing anymore.

IMO the whole thing about Gabbert supposedly 'sliding ten yards within a defender, being scared' blah, blah blah, is a just a buncha micro-managing garbage. See Byron Leftwich's 'long wind-up throw' that causes him to get stripped on every single play, and him not caring because he wore his hat backwards.

comncense

At least Byron and David weren't afraid to take a hit. I distinctly remember times seeing Byron killed by Dwight Freeny back in the day. As a QB you have to have the guts to take a hit sometime in order to get your pass off. I can't recall an instance this season where I've seen Blaine hang in the pocket and take a hit while he was waiting on a WR to get into their route and deliver the pass.

I-10east

^^^ Just like Gabby 'wasn't afraid' to get hit against the Texans on that first down run, and nearly got killed.

Right! Gabbert has taken some blows. So this "he's afraid to get hit" theory is way off base. I think its more so that he get's nervous when he feels pressure coming and releases the ball too soon. But to his credit, on one play last night he did step up into the pocket to get away from the rush and try to complete the pass.

I saw recievers open and I saw Gabbert throw the ball into the turf.. no pressure. Is he a bust? Or maybe more improvement after the off season.

Kudos for Everbank Field's hilarious entrance music for the visiting teams, I'll try to name the specailized entrance music for the visiting teams. Help me out if you know any more.

SD (and I guess SF, and OAK) Katy Perry's 'California Gurls'(Even though SD made us look like FL Gurls).

CIN (and I guess DET, and CAR) an indistinguishable cutsy 'meow, meow, meow' kitty cat song.

TEN (Dueling Banjos, probably the funniest).

Well Ive seen experienced QB throw the ball in the turf and even Rivers intentionally grounded once last night. However, I do remember Mike Thomas being wide open and he threw it else where. But I also seen him do a shovel pass to Mojo that was a very unexpected and smart move that set up a  long run. We will see what happens next season. Only time will tell I guess.
