LOL , like I said evey fan base is happy when they are winning thats nothing new I think not. How intelligent is that?

Just to play devil's advocate, the Bengals are 7-4, second in their division, and have still seen 8 of their last 9 home games blacked out.

But yes, I agree that the winning helps a lot with Tebow-mania in Denver.

And last year the Bucs were in the playoff hunt and had all their games blacked out. Those two situations make me feel better about our fan base.

We're supporting the team through some mediocre years in a bad economy.

And lets remember Gene was our scout before he was GM. Since the team inception, he was in background scoping out players. If you think about it, hes always had the same mentality. The Jags has always took chances on players no one else would. Fred Taylor and Jimmy Smith are two examples.  Taylor and Jimmy were both battered with injuries and were cut repeatedly before coming to the Jags. Another good example is Kenan Mccardell. He had a six year, medicore career with the redskins and browns. Then the Jags drafted him and he finally broke out. So IMO Gene mentality is still the same, but it has not worked in out favor lately.

I read an acrticle awhile back that said "Why not the LA bucs?" And it stated that depsite what people say, Jacksonville is very passionate about the Jaguars and Tampa seems not to care about the Bucs. We are very passionate about our team. 2009 was just series of events that happen at one time. We never neglected the team. However, at the height of the recession and coming off a 5-11 season, fans were just fustrated and some couldnt afford tickets anymore. We have a very faithful fan base.

That reminds me.  Speaking of small school receivers....Jimmy Smith - Jackson State; Keenan - UNLV.

I'm not sure how much credit you can give to Gene in the previous year's picks before he became the GM. Shack and Jack made picks before that and then it was all Coughlin. Here's the Jags 1st round picks since 95

Tom Coughlin
Tony Boselli
Kevin Hardy
Renaldo Wynn
Fred Taylor
Fernando Bryant
RJ Soward
Marcus Stroud
John Henderson

JDR & Shack Harris
Matt Jones
Marcedes Lewis
Reggie Nelson
Derrick Harvey

Gene Smith
Eugene Monroe
Tyson Alualu
Blaine Gabbert

Also of note, there's only been 2 Pro Bowlers drafted since Coughlin left and that is MJD and Marcedes. Coughlin drafted 7.

I think JDR/Harris had Reggie Williams as well, in '04.

True Wacca, and Byron Leftwich... Can't believe I forgot him. I'd personal rank these drafts by the 3 groups in the exact order. Tom the best, Jack and Shack at least gave us MJD and Marcedes (even though he's fallen off a bit), Greg Jones, Scobee and Vince Manuwai.

If you want to play the 'draft' game, pick a team and we'll go through their last couple of drafts as well.  Realize that we're only now able to really start picking apart GS's first draft as GM.  Sure, he was a scout in the system before, but there's nothing resembling these past 3 drafts with what Jack/Shack had going before.

Pick a team, let's look at their '09 draft.

Just looked up his bio and Gene was our scout and over scouting ever since we have had the team. Thus meaning, all the players you mentioned, 9 out 10 times he had some dealing with bringing them to the team. Long story short, he scouted some great players. He knows talent. But it is possiable to hit and miss

Seems like Gene is held to a different standard, though.  Most praise Tom for his overall drafting even though his drafts often didn't yield much after the first round (though his first round picks, other than Soward, were obviously wise).  Seems Jag fans expect Gene to snatch a major contributor in every round and he's a failure or myopically obsessed with small schools when he doesn't.  Rarely does any team get a contributor out of every round, and the Jags' 2009 draft was uncommonly good and deep.

Shack did give us those five fine players, plus Daryl Smith and a good 7th round value in Bobby McCray, but he had a six-year window in which to do it and his '08 and '05 drafts were horrible clunkers.

Williams, Tr - No longer in the league
Williams, Th - 7 Games with Carolina - 2 Starts
Washington - No longer in the league

All of these players went to big colleges.  SMH.

'08 is a fine example of the idea that a big-school player isn't a better NFL fit simply because I've heard of him before.

I can't remember '07 note for note but it included Nelson, Durant, Sims-Walker, Podlesh, Josh Gattis, Derek Landri, Chad Nkang, John Broussard.  I think there was one other pick, a DPR type, and I keep wanting to say Brent Hawkins but I'm sure he was the year before.

Not awful, since five of those guys are still in the league, but Gene would've been attacked for a comparable yield.  Podlesh is really the best one at his position of the bunch, and he was an overdraft in the 4th and struggled in his first two seasons.
