I'm waiting for verification, but I hear code has received its funding to demolish the formal track homes.

I hope to have more info soon.

It is time, once again, to be on high alert.

I can confirm at least one, I saw someone from a demolishing company Monday morning in my alley. Apparently, they are going to take down a garage apartment that has been empty for a few years now.

It's too soon for code's bulldozing.
I do not currently have a list of addresses, but I'm working on it.
Code gave HPC 120 days to notify owners, likely about mothballing.
These homes were approved some time ago by HPC, via the practice of the formal track.
I can not confirm if they have been contracted out to a demolition company yet.
I can not confirm, but I am told this is NSP 3 funds.  While I have nothing in writing to prove this, I am certain it is based on various conversations over the past 6 months.

Garages don't need HPC permission (Commissioners) just a COA from Joel's office.
Is this the demolition someone was chainsawing?  What is the address of the garage if you don't mind?

fsujax

NO, i dont think anyone has been chainsawing this one. Not sure of the address. It is in between 3rd and 4th on the west side of the street. It is a white garage apartment. It backs up to my yard.

Apparently something demoed is being chainsawed on E. 5th, something also on the alley.
I think it may actually be a house?
You know the house on Ionia, with the old LISC sign in front of it?  Not very attractive in its current state, green and boarded up?  Next to the ONH bungalow? On the north side of the bungalow.  There is a house behind it, I think the address is 1340 Ionia.  Technically these are two houses on two separate lots, but it is one house in front of the other.  It's a split lot with no front access.  It sold several years ago for 13k.  Is it that one?  The house is only accessible from the alley.  I believe the bottom half is block construction and the top is cedar shake.  The block is white, the shake dark green.

F&$K!  That better not be the garage apt behind the community orchard that the bank was going to donate to SS!  I am going over there RIGHT now

avs

Just went down there.  We didn't see any city trucks or bulldozing equip down there.

We looked at the white garage apt next to Billy's house and it was intact too

14 houses on the list
13 really, as Patterson apts. which is on the list, is already gone.

We are entitled to know where the funds come from to demolish these houses.  Then we can check to make sure that funding source is okay with tearing down an endangered historic district.
