The Urban Core Thanks Bill Killingsworth

While the Alvin Brown administration continues to move forward with a massive reorganization of City Hall, the urban core would like to thank former planning director Bill Killingsworth for his service to the City of Jacksonville and encourages the Brown Administration to follow through with the innovative practices Killingsworth bought to our community.

Many groups in Springfield looked to him for leadership -- which he gladly supplied.

Thanks for putting this on the front page today.  San Marco is also very troubled about his departure.  Waiting - but not patiently - to see what Mayor Brown's next move is.

Thank you to Bill for hearing us on the urban ag stuff and encouraging us to move forward with it.  The work you did with the mothballing legislation is also a HUGE contribution to sustaining the denisty we have in the urban core and we are greatly appreciative.  The zoning code re-write is greatly needed in this city and we truly hope the Brown Administration carries on with the same vision.

When I called I told her who I was individually and as an organization.
This email went out today from Preservation SOS:

Dear Mayor Brown,

Preservation SOS is deeply saddened and disappointed by the removal of Bill Killingsworth as Director of Planning and Development for the City of Jacksonville.  We clammored about "Saving Springfield" and he responded by walking with us through Springfield, learning about our plight, and acting; he said his department would write legislation to make mothballing real and true for Springfield, and he did. Bill is absolutely the reason why Historic Springfield (and our other historic districts) have the legislation of mothballing in place.

We believe strongly that the continued resurgance of Springfield will be the catalyst to make Downtown Jacksonville alive again. We need Bill, a City of Jacksonville director who listens and DOES, to continue to make this happen; this mover and shaker must stay.  Hoping you reconsider and appoint Bill as Director of Planning and Development.

Hopefully this decision can be reconsidered.
