I called too, just as a concerned DT dweller.  They were very polite and very courteous.  I hope it has an impact.

Enlightenment--that magnificent escape from anguish and ignorance--never happens by accident. It results from the brave and sometimes lonely battle of one person against his own weaknesses.

When will Alvin Brown start getting rid of some of JTA's management?

thelakelander

I don't think he has any control over JTA.  They are a state agency.

It will be a huge relief if we learn that Bill is the Director of the new Downtown Development Authority. If Bill continues his work with a DDA, I personally would like to see the definition of downtown to include all of the immediate urban neighborhoods, Springfield, 5-Points/Brooklyn, Durkeeville, Eastside/Fairfield, San Marco/Saint Nicholas, with Bill in the directors seat.

The mayor has limited control over the board of the JTA.... its a city-state agency where the mayor can appoint members to the board in equal number to the Gov.'s appointment..... neither the state or the city have control so to speak..

Not sure I agree with the expanded definition of downtown.  The City has done great things for Brooklyn--no?  (please read that sentence as sarcasm.)  They've got enough to do to get downtown proper back.

Mayor Brown needs to find some place for him, a place where he can influence some decisions about the future of this city.

It's called PLANNING....let's do it.

Little off topic, but related.  From an article today:  "JTA Director of Resource Development Steven Arrington said the plan is to improve the pedestrian pathway between the proposed terminal and the Skyway station and possibly to reroute the Downtown trolley to provide direct service to the new Greyhound terminal."  -In relation to the greyhound station, which looks like is going to happen.  Really Really??  Pedestrian Pathway?  What the hell is this guy talking about?  Pedestrian Pathway on your walk to 95?  This crap can stop with good planning.

Reminds of.......pick one........State of Florida DCA.  Charles Gauthier removed.Finally.....Officially.
howls of righteous indignation.Prophetic.

At least in the case of Charles the looming excise was predictable, the sense of futility self sustaining.

Seemingly not so here among these many pages, certainly little hint prior to credible current events,no hint as to how this will unfold.

Believe it or not, Stephendare and myself came across some old records that spelled out 'downtown' pretty much along the lines I suggested sometime around 1920. If we have an aggressive DDA with REAL planners of the caliber of thelakelander, tufsu1, FSUJAX and of course Bill Killingsworth, our city will be unstoppable, regardless of the boundaries. My point being it would be wonderful to see us recapture the downtown we once had.
