QuoteJACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- All northbound lanes of the 9000 block of San Jose Boulevard near Baymeadows Road were closed Monday due to a 24-inch water main break.

Road construction crews in the area closed the lanes just before noon.

JEA spokeswoman Gerri Boyce said a contractor struck the large underground water main Monday morning.

Boyce said crews were trying to turn the water valve off and isolate the break.

Homes in the area will be without water for some time, Boyce said.

She said a boil water alert could be issued depending on how long the water is flowing and how many people are affected. That alert could come later Monday.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

I work around here and it is like a lake out on San Jose. Traffic is terrible in both directions as they have north and south lantes closed at San Jose and Old St Augustine Road. We are being told it will be 6-8 hours before this is repaired. I walked over there during lunch and water is coming up through a crack all the way across the point where Old St Augustine Road and San Jose intersects.

There is a new Zaxby's going in there, though I am not sure if that has anything to do with it.

For sanitary reasons, we are being released for the rest of the day.

My office is on Hartley and the water is still on.  Haven't dared to venture up the road to check out the fuss though.

One more reason not to live in the Suburbs!  Total dependence on one water main going down San Jose.
When all else fails hug the dog.
