Pack of dogs

Springfield Animal Care And Rescue Club (SACARC) needs your help! In the past couple of months we are aware of at least 4 cats killed by dogs. The last known incident was 3/31 where we lost 2 in 24 hours. This is apparently the same pack that has been active before and we had hoped that Animal Care had found and removed them but not so. The description is always the same - three chows, two black and one brown. They always travel together and the incidents are always in the wee hours of the morning. Three out of four recent kitty victims were in or close to the northwest quadrant, but previous sightings have been all over the neighborhood.

We have GOT to find out where these animals are holed up during the day. If you see dogs of this description please DO NOT APPROACH THEM but let us know: contactus@sacarc.org. We will coordinate with ACPS.

Springfield needs to be protected from these dangerous animals. We have made so much progress in the last 5 years, but sadly we still have some work to be done. As always, SACARC appreciates your support.

Saw these 2 guys roaming the streets over there today (on Boulevard, next to the park).

I snapped this from the car. Got out to see if they'd let me get close, but they took off.

Mind you, they don't exactly look like killers, but they were def strays & traveling together (maybe part of a bigger pack?).

Thank you, Pee.  I'm not sure if these are the culprits but if we can get enough pics and reports of actual sightings hopefully we can figure out a pattern.

These two belong to a house on Boulevard at that block. The owner usually lets them out in the back towards the alley.

Maybe they are doing a favor by reducing the stray cat population.  How about relocating them to hemming plaza for bum control ???

how about you go do something unpleasant to yourself with a bicycle pump and a firecracker?

Thank you for identifying them, moved.  That's the other reason we are trying to gather specifics - we don't want to send Animal Control chasing after somebody's innocent pets.

They weren't wearing collars & were all over that block without their master anywhere in sight. And they look malnourished to me & were eating some sort of scraps next to the street, so take any of that for what it's worth.

Personally, I'd rather see those malnourished and loose dogs picked up. They shouldn't be loose on the streets and that owner shouldn't own them. How irresponsible of them  >:(   I'm sure they're not current on their shots and it's highly unlikely they're on heartworm prevention meds.

If someone wants to report them to the City they will probably be picked up because it is illegal to let them run loose.  However, that's such a hard decision - with the number of animals at ACPS it is not likely to have a happy ending, and it's so easy for the owner to simply get replacements.

Pee, I did not mean to sound dismissive...I only meant that we want to make sure we get the dogs we are looking for who are responsible for the cat-killing.  I am not saying these are or are not the ones and I appreciate you posting pictures with specifics; that's exactly what we need to see a pattern.

Should'nt this apply to stray cats also?
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

If it's a bonafide feral/community cat (neutered, ear-tipped, and cared for) it does not...that's a provision of the new pet ordinance.  Which is why when we find strays we try to take care of them so they don't become a nuisance.
