JTA is beginning a pre-feasibility study in January regarding implementation of Streetcar transit in Downtown/Springfield. The pre-feasibility study is expected to take 6 months to complete.

If you wish to indicate support for Streetcar transit in Springfield, please go to www.jtafla.com and take the "Downtown Mobility Survey". In this survey, JTA considers Springfield part of downtown, so feel free to indicate you are a resident, then check Springfield in the subsequent question.

The survey does not specifically ask about future Streetcar, but at the end of the survey there is an open comment question where you may give your opinion on future Streetcar in Springfield -- if you want it, an appropriate answer might be "YES, regarding a streetcar from Downtown up Main to Springfield and 8th Street!!!"

This feedback WILL affect the outcome of the pre-feasibility study, so be sure to weigh in as soon as you can.

When you say a streetcar is being considered for Springfield/downtown, do you mean an electrified traditional streetcar or just one of those buses which look like streetcars?

I think the point here is to specifically state that we want rail.

Im sure Riverside does too.

JTA typically calls those buses "trolleys" and not streetcars, but who knows for sure...

Nice.  I think this is what we've all been waiting on.  While this system would not likely replace the proposed BRT plan, it is still a step in the right direction.  Kudos to those involved in making this happen.

My first priority would be to stop the BRT plan.  Spending the insane amount of money to build it and the negative impact on the neighborhoods will also have a negative effect on rail, as well.

I found out some more information and confirmed that the study is on real electric streetcars on tracks, not trolley buses.
