What was that sound???

There was a series of roaring sounds this morning in Arlington. It may have been jets flying low. The noise would go for a few seconds and then stop. Soon it would start again, and stop again. This happened several times. Can anyone tell me what was going on?

That's strange, because I heard the same thing or something similar.  It was about 3:30 / 4:00 and it sounded like my neighborhood was being bombed.  I asked my wife this morning and she said I must have been dreaming.

I guess you can figure out what side of town I live on based on the screen-name.

Interesting! It was between 7:00 and 7:30 AM when I heard it. Maybe there was some kind of military drill going on. It almost reminded me of a Harrier, which is a  jet that can also hover in one spot like a helicopter. Instead of getting louder as they approach, or fading out as they go further away, the sound remains constant while they hover. I saw one a few years ago and it was a weird. OR, we may have been hearing some UFO activity.

p.s. - I lived on the Westside for years. Also in Riverside for a while. Both good places to live. I moved to Arlington after I got married because my wife's family lives in Arlington and because we found a good deal on a house here.

Glad you re-posted - I wouldn't have remembered to let you know.  A good friend of mine from NAS told me that there was a sqadron of f-18's in town practicing night carrier landings.  When they come in for approach and the moment the wheels touch down, they go full throttle - just in case they miss the restraining wires so they can build enough speed back up and not crash off the end of the ship's deck.  That noise that we were hearing was the engines being revved up on their touches.
