Another house, 1325 Laura Street, is on its way up the bureaucratic ladder to be demolished. Another house neglected by its current owner for years. Currently, there is no mechanism to help neighbors address their legitimate concerns about safety and blight. What we need is an advocate for the houses, allow them to "speak" and find help. At Preservation SOS, we would like to experiment with a "We Care" hotline. If you have a problem with a house in historic Springfield, give us a call and we will try to find resources to mitigate the problems and save the house. Our efforts may include, but are not limited too: contacting the owner, offer owner advice/suggest resources available, arrange meeting(s) with neighbors to address their immediate concerns. Our main goal will be to speak for the house and preserve it.

To use this volunteer service, please call 904-335-8767 (335-8SOS) and leave a message or post on the http://forum.preservationsos.org/viewforum.php?f=16 "We Care" thread on our forum.

Let's save the houses.

The old adage "a stitch in time..." is never more true than when dealing with 100 year old houses.  A bit of paint, a patch on the siding or the roof, a little advice, all of these things can save a house.  And if you save a house...you save a neighborhood.
