Karlene's is out, the Village Bread is in....

Jacksonville restaurant Village Bread Cafe has signed a five-year lease to locate at The Jacksonville Landing.

Rachel Nudge, the Landing's public relations director, said Tuesday the cafe, which has other Jacksonville locations at 5215 Philips Highway and 10111 San Jose Blvd., will move into space near the shopping facility's entrance on Independent Drive and is to open in October. The spot the restaurant will occupy was most recently leased by Karlene's Deli, Nudge said.

The restaurant specializes in homemade bread, sandwiches, salads, soups, pizzas and pastries for lunch and bagels and omelets for breakfast, she said.

QuoteThe place to go for “classic fare with a twist.” Whether it’s making extra special sandwiches on home-made bread, big fresh salads, exceptional soups, pizza’s on ciabatta bread, or delicious pastries, there’s something for everyone. Locally owned, Village Bread Cafe also makes breakfast special featuring a variety of bagels and omelets. Other Jacksonville locations: 5215 Philips Hwy and 10111 San Jose Blvd.

So how many different restaurants have been in that spot in the past couple of years?

That space is like a black hole for restaurants.  Hopefully this one will work out.

You'd think these new people would know that perhaps that isn't the best spot to open a restaurant......unless you have YEARS of financial security for the restaurant....

Were any of the other tenants in this space multi-location businesses??  Maybe this will have a little more staying power.  I like their logo.

I think I will try out one of their other locations tomorrow to see how it is...
If they are going to remain open and viable in the Landing the product has to be EXTREMELY GREAT!

Harry's Seafood was another that had multiple locations.

I can't wait for that Pizza place to open...I am ready for a change from Pizza Palace.

For events they now charge a flat $10 to park at the Landing... which is outrageous considering parking is free evenings and weekends on the streets downtown.  People seem willing to pay it though and avoid walking a block or two... amazing!
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

There is parking all over the city. If you have great product, people get to you.

Not me. I had a meeting in the Suntrust Tower the other afternoon and figured I'd park at the Landing.  They wanted a $5 flat fee to park and I ended up backing out of there and heading over to the library garage.  I had to walk a few blocks and was a little late, but it was free after stopping by the library information desk to validate my ticket.

once.  maybe twice.  Not enough to survive.

I agree. However, Hooter's seems to have success at the Landing.  They've been there forever.

Until the city changes its parking policies, the landing will continue to be where restuarants go to die.

parking is not the problem....the Landing does just fine during the work day when the meters are running....the problem is in the evening and on weekends....when on-street parking is free!
