It wasn't '65.. it was '68 that they first won the Southern League, which was their first season in AA.  The Suns used to be a AAA affiliate in the International League for the Cardinals and Mets for like 6 or 7 years in the early and mid 60s.  I was not anywhere close to being born back then, I just remember reading the wikipedia article on the Suns a while back.

Jason

Damn, I thought he had a typo that should have read '95 instead of '65.  I had no idea the Suns have been around that long.

They've been around a while.  For example, I know Hank Aaron played here on his way up to the majors.

And the Jacksonville Suns are the AA Southern League Champions of the World!!! WHOA!

Championship number 5 in the books!!!

Jacksonville should be all smiles!!

Props to the Bragans.

These kids are good, and will be seeing many of them in the Majors.

Fred Mercury do your thing man!!!!

Congrats to the Suns... Great venue... great team... fun times!
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Well, that's nice. Congrats. Too bad my Biscuits aren't the victorious ones.
Don't kill me, but what team are they affiliated with? Still the Dodgers?
Wastin' away again in Downtown Jacksonville
Searchin' for a good mass transit line
Some people claim there's a Mayor to blame
As I find a big ol' parking fine

Tremendous product and tremendous venue. The Bragans have represented the city well. The new park could support a AAA team in my opinion. I have supported the Sun's since the 70's in the "old metal bowl" that was Wolfson park.

^^^The most awkward, and 'long awaited' reply in MJ's history EVER! LOL. I usually agree with alot that you say Cooly, but you've been off your game a lil' lately. I didn't see anything wrong what David said (over two years ago).

I would like to add another team that is exclusively from Jacksonville.

Team Resistance (http://www.teamresistance.org), a local FIRST (http://www.usfirst.org) robotics team that is open to all high school kids out there on the First Coast.

Team Resistance has been the Florida Regional Champion three times (2007, 2008, and 2010), and we are looking forward to get our 4th one this weekend in Orlando at the 2012 Florida Regional at UCF Arena and hopefully onto the National Championship in St. Louis in the last weekend of April!

So come down to Orlando and cheer for your local Team Resistance and learn more about FIRST this Saturday all day!

Here is a video of our 2010 robot playing in the 2010 Florida Regional few years ago. This gives you a sneak preview of what it is like. Our robot is the one with the bright lime green. You can't miss us. We are known as the Team 86 from Jacksonville.

Wish the Jags would play this well.

I'll be there Friday, and if necessary Sat and Sun.  It's been a great season to follow the Suns.  They're on a roll now.  Won 10 straight to end the season and sneak into the playoffs.
