We could fill a Walk of Fame with sports figures alone, including NFL Hall of Famers Bob Hayes and Harold Carmichael.

Norman Thagard, in space suit, would make for a good statue too.

That is a great listing that starts that thread, Stephen.  An earlier version of that summary, minus the photos, was one of the first things I read on this site.

Every time I read it, I'm particularly struck by the idea of Genovar's Hall as a preserved venue honoring Ray Charles and the other great performers of Ashley & Jefferson with statues and memorabilia.

Have there been any updates on the status of Genovar's lately?

That middle one of the three is my favorite.

Bill Pickett definitely ought to be a part of this display; can't believe I forgot him.

Incidentally, has anyone else read "The First Hollywood"?  Sad how the Norman Studios group has had no luck in getting a star to back the property--they thought Bill Cosby was a good possibility since they knew he was aware of the Pickett films.

QuoteIsn't this - or something like it already happening/planned @ the Florida Theatre?

I knew I'd remembered something about this - it just isn't quite in the capacity in which this thread has described:

Florida Theatre getting facelift  09/02/2009
QuoteThe sidewalk on the south side of Forsyth Street in front of the Florida Theatre is closed due to a major renovation project. In addition to restoring the 85-year-old marble on the front of the building, the sidewalk is also being replaced. It will soon become a Hollywood-style “Walk of Fame” complete with stars recognizing supporters of the theater over the years. The $200,000 project will be unveiled at a special ceremony Sept. 21 just before Smokey Robinson goes on stage at 8 p.m.

$200,000 to recognize supports of the theater? While this is nice I would prefer something that recognizes artists from Jacksonville.

I totally agree.
