Hi folks!

My husband and I are from Providence, RI, and relocating to the Jax area in August. I'm going to be attending FCCJ part time, we're hoping for some advice on neighborhoods in the city that, if possible, are within a 30-40 min driving distance of the north campus. We're not looking for million dollar living, just some place where we're not going to get hit by a stray bullet nor get robbed every other weekend :-). Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Welcome!  FCCJ is a great school.  Take some time and read through this website and you will get some ideas.
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Riverside/Avondale, Springfield, or San Marco will probably make you feel more at home.  All are historic walkable neighborhoods with great connectivity to downtown.

Mattamy (Matt & Amy?),

I lived in Providence for a few years. If you tell me which neighborhoods in Providence (or RI in general) you like and dislike, I could give you some specific advice on which Jax neighborhoods you might prefer.

I agree with Jason.  All of the areas he mentioned are unique and centrally located.  The great thing about living near downtown is that often you are driving against traffic instead of amongst it.  Not sure what Matt will be doing, but living near downtown would be a quick commute for you to get to FCCJ-North.

On a related note, I'm looking at a masters program at Brown University.  Any info on the university and Providence would be awesome.  I've never been to RI.  You can send me a personal message if you want. :)

If you're moving from NE, then we'll see you in Springfield, where half of the local population is from Boston and its environs.  ;D Welcome!

Hey now, there are only a couple dozen of us! :-)

I guess they'll want that New England feel, so Springfield, San Marco, Riverside/Avodale are my immediate picks, especially with Matt attending FCCJ.

I used to live in New England, Springfield is the best choice to relocate to JAX. I am also taking class at FCCJ part time. we can be study buddies :)
