Crist To Sign Controversial Growth Bill

Gov. Charlie Crist will sign a bill environmentalists and growth management advocacy groups say will lead to more sprawl.

Crist said Wednesday that provisions they opposed were watered down in the final version. Builders and developers say the bill will help Florida's struggling housing market rebound.

The measure is aimed at channeling growth into dense urban areas by lifting requirements for adequate roads and other transportation and for state approval of large developments.

Pft, he needs a reality check IMO. This will not do anything to help our state's crippled housing market. We have enough stock as is right now. About the only part that will boom soon is the Bay County area as far as I can tell.

This will only make a bad situation even worse, especailly for Central Florida. Their practically FUBAR as is in Orlando Metro now.

Makes perfect sense.  Relax restrictions so builders can build more homes farther from employment centers, despite the abundant housing supply.  Let's exacerbate foreclosure rates than mitigate them.
