Stop Government Paid Healthcare

Yesterday I wrote about the sad fact that it's now economically more feasible for a person ( 750,000 of us) in the US to travel thousands of miles to a foreign country for medical care than to receive that care in this country.

Here is what another blogger wrote:

QuoteWe all know that this is because of a simple lack of leadership from those who feel none of the consequences from their lack of spine, or worse, from certain industries being treated as "more equal" than "we the people" when it comes to legislative representation.

So, perhaps the best way to stiffen some spines is to give them a taste of their own (lack of) medicine.

In the interest of fairness for all Americans, I present the:

Health Care Equity Act of 2009

Whereas the members of the United States House and Senate have repeatedly proclaimed government-paid health care coverage to be an inefficient waste of taxpayer money, and

Whereas the members of the United States House and Senate currently receive such inefficent and wasteful government-paid health care coverage, and

Whereas the United States has incurred a budget deficit of [current $amount here], and

Whereas in light of such a deficit, it would be irresponsible to continue to waste tax-payer money to continue to pay for such inefficient health care coverage, and

Whereas it is unfair to continue to force the members of the US House and Senate to settle for such subordinate care when their health care interests will be better served by the free market,

Therefore it is resolved that government-paid health care coverage be ended for all members of the US House and Senate beginning no later than 12:01 am, January 1, 2010.

While this is designed for the federal legislature, there's no reason it couldn't be tweaked for one's state legislature and/or to include the "executive" and administration at each level.

In a society governed passively by free markets and free elections, organized greed always defeats disorganized democracy.

This made me giggle. I know it's such a shame they along with the US military are forced to have a government controlled medical system.

Lord knows back in my Navy brat days I had to endure check ups, free eye exams along with free glasses if needed, free vaccinations, free proscriptions, free MRI's for the source of my migraines, free MRI's when at the age of 3 I swallowed a gold earring.  I have NO idea how I was able to stay healthy. And those wait time, I mean how long is 5-10?. And those under trained doctors with their degrees on the wall.

Okay done with my sarcasm.

Uh, those services were not free - and are not sustainable on a larger level, such as the entire population.

Military members are a) younger and b) healthier than the general population so the costs are a lot lower.

Also, those docs are in the military have another reason to be there - the government is paying for their training and paying off the student loans for their commitment in the military (by using higher taxes to pay for it).

I was in the military too.  you want to see government run healthcare facility - go to the VA hospital.  I personally will avoid a VA hospital for treatment.  But that's just a microcosm of government running an entire healthcare system.

People wake up!  And stop using the term "free".

I like it!  This has come up many times regarding our congress... I believe they have a pretty handsome retirement package for life after only one term...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

My bad, I thought it meant free but now I see where the government took out health care insurance cost from his paycheck....wait no I don't....or I guess I see where he paid independently for it....no wait I don't see that either.....

Oh and I have been to a VA hospital, my father goes for his Carpal Tunnel.

Did you see any federal withholding on his paycheck?  Did you see any on yours.  Turns out it wasn't free.

:D :o  Have you seen a military paycheck??  Not much there to take much from.  That is part of that pesky "sacrifice" thing we hear about.

Thank you Tripoli! :) You beat me to it.

Have you seen a military paycheck??

Yes I have, my father raised a family of 4 on it pretty well. And his withholding is about like mine AND I get to pay for private insurance.

BridgeTroll

Yep... me too.  The medical benefit for a family of four on a military salary is awsome!
