I have friends coming in town from South Florida tonight. They want to go out. Any ideas? What is good Downtown on a Thursday night? Thanks for the advice.

Not sure what your age range is but Pearl gets busy on Thursday nights.

If you're into a more laid back vibe the elevated hip-hop experience is playing at Shanty Town, pretty good jazz/hip-hop band.

Starting out at Burrito Gallery downtown then hitting up the Bay st establishments is usually good time, especially if you enjoy the clubby atmosphere. Plus you can do it on foot if you choose.

I know you said downtown, but if your friends wanted to do the beach thing, Split-tones is playing at the Brix Taphouse in Jax beach, good hip-hop/reggae cover band , lots of purdy ladies to look at usually. It gets pretty busy.

People seem to prefer going out on Thursdays instead of Fridays in Jax so there shouldn't be a shortage of things to do tonight.

Yeah, the Pearl is definitely a happening place to go, but depending on your attitude it can be frustrating. If you're looking to dance your butt off and drink, it's cool. But if you want to actually converse with people, I'd recommend something a little more low key. The lines for drinks and the bathroom can get ridonkulous and the egos be overwhelming for what I like to refer to as "D-bag night".

Shanty town is always fun.

I would start off with a bite to eat at the Greyhound station food court.. then jump the skyway over to the southbank for some binge drinking at Sherwoods... I'm talking blackout drunk. It may not be as fancy as the Pearl but your friends won't remember any of it anyways.
And though I long to embrace, I will not replace my priorities: humour, opinion, a sense of compassion, creativity and a distaste for fashion.

Don't forget to stop by the BP in san marco for your bottle of sterno.

Thanks for the ideas. I was thinking Downtown, but I didnt want to take them to Bay St and us be the only ones down there. Since I live in Springfield, downtown is easy, the beach is too far. I am not that old, early 30's, friends coming in town late 20's.

David

Yeah I wouldn't recommend going to Bay St until after 10:00 pm if you don't want to be the only ones there, but the film festival might draw a crowd earlier than usual.

5 points actually has enough places to support a little bar hopping now if you're afraid of commitment. Wall Street, Starlite, Raglands, O'Brothers & Steamworks. Plus the new wine bar, Kickbacks, club Casbah & Eclipse  a little further down. Places you probably already know about.

Coming from South Florida to experience Jax nightlife, I have to laugh, sorry guys.

They arent coming to experience Jax nightlife. They are passing through on their way north, only spending one night. We all know Jax is not the place to come for nightlife!

I think I will check it out this afternoon... Bold city will be there and they are also nearby... :)
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Keith it wasnt that bad, i took them to O'Borhters in Riverside, we actually had a good time.
