Hat's off to the business editors at the T-U

Interior demolition nearly is complete in the former Haverty's building, now called the 407 Building.

The Police and Fire Pension Fund's ongoing $10 million remodeling of the six-story structure received its final building permit for alterations and repairs on Oct. 12. Ownership of the property at 407 Laura St. was transferred to the Pension Fund last year by the city to shave off $3 million in long-term pension fund obligations.

The building was constructed in 1906 and designed by Henry Klutho, whose architectural mark remains on city buildings such as the now-closed Hayden Burns Library.


Uh.....I think Henry Klutho was dead when the Haydon Burns Library was built (and he probably rolled over in his grave when he saw it).  Taylor Hardwick was actually the guy who built the brick wall on Forsyth.

Hahahaha.... Yeah, that HB Library is TOTALLY prairie style... Meanwhile the St James Building was built by North East Florida Builders Association...

Nice catch.  Klutho died in 1964.  The Haydon Burns was built in 1965.
