Way to go COJ! Someone from San Marco made a great comment last night that this City doesn't know who it is or what it wants to be. The only clear mission I see is that the city wants to use Downtown as one big homeless facility. Bravo COJ, maybe we can be known for having the most expensive homeless center in the country. It is state of the art with tons of reading material and computer access. Oh and it's got a great front yard where the huddled masses can play cards all day and plug in their cell phones and tvs.

3rd and Davis St., about 4 blocks from the Ritz Theater and FSCJ.

We should use the FBC parking garages as homeless shelters.  In the winter they can warm up on the hoods of the parked cars and FBC can simply increase the cost of parking by a dollar or a McChicken -- thereby feeding everyone.  Win win!

Stephen, when "the beast" was being crazy, did you have a right to be in the plaza?
Was he threatening you?
Do you have a CCW?

gmpalmer

If he's that bad,
I suggest you take a class, pay some fees, and maybe one day you'll get lucky and he'll threaten you with bodily harm.

Though I don't know if that's sort of a baiting. . .

Stephen, it is crazy down there. WTF, I have to go through a metal detector and have my belongings xrayed to enter City Hall while the city ignores the disaster going on right in front of their faces. Really, how big does the elephant have to get? You people at City Hall are the only ones who are not taking note of what is happening in this city and your constituants are pissed!

Don't even think about touching one of those tables unless you are armed with Clorox and Lysol! You know that might actually be funny. We could get a group of people together, arm ourselves with disinfectants and spray away.

OMG, I would have had to make a really loud comment pondering the diseases that were going to be passed around cause I'm a bitch like that.

Has there been any more shootings in Hemming Plaza over playstations recently?

Bewler get on here with your suggestion about the homeless! He said why not move all the homeless facilities to the far Northside, out in the stix. If the homeless have no one to panhandle from, maybe those homeless facilities will be far more effective in helping them out.

Are the shelters opened downtown because the homeless will congregate there regardless, or are they there because of the homeless shelters?

The idea of moving them to a different location where they can be helped, but the negative impact is minimized seems like common sense, but there has to be some reason why that hasn’t been done yet.

The social service providers like to say they were all here which makes no sense. Why would someone come Downtown where there are little to no entry level jobs if there was no one to feed them or hand out clothes. They come because this is where they can hang out and get fed. Its a vicious cycle with no way out. Trillions of dollars have been spent on this issue but it gets worse. Even when the economy was booming the homeless population continued to grow. When I moved to Jax in 84 Downtown was a ghost town. I have seen the growth in the homeless poplation get larger with each passing year with no reprieve. The more money we spend and the more shelters we build the more people come.

So we just need to move the Jail?  I propose Mandarin.  Failing that, Neptune Beach.

You know, we've got what is it 10,000 real homeless folk?  No family no place to go, etc?
if we got them each a greyhound ticket + $40 in groceries (6 MREs perhaps?) we could clear the city of its permanent homeless population for $1,000,000.

We don't need the city to do this.  Just donors to chip in.  Pledges, anyone?
