Unrestricted free agent wide receiver Torry Holt is on the verge of signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com.
Holt, who also visited the Tennessee Titans, will be joining a receiver-starved football team that has cut ties with failed wideouts Matt Jones, Jerry Porter and Reggie Wiliams this offseason.

Cut by the St. Louis Rams last month after seven Pro Bowl appearances, Holt, 32, has been limited by a recurring knee condition in recent years.

The former North Carolina State star was held to 64 receptions for 796 yards and three touchdowns last season.

Holt has caught 869 passes for 12,660 yards and 74 touchdowns in 10 NFL seasons.

Pair him up with Boldin too - or grab Crabtree in the draft - that would be a sweet tandem with Walker off of the bench as the third!

Quick! Get that man a $10,000,000 guaranteed signing bonus!!

(Although really, If the Jags are going to sign another aging free agent with an injury history who was cut from his last team, I'd really feel more comfortable if it were another wash out from the Vikings. Let's keep things within the organization's comfort zone.)

Well, the washout from the Vikings had never shown anything more than potential. At least Torry has the brains of a seven-time Pro Bowler, if no longer the legs. As long as the deal doesn't cost us too much then I'm fine with it...but yes...im kinda scared to see the figures if/when this happens.

I'd probably take Crabtree, just from the little I saw of him this year. Negative on Boldin...I think hes fairly good but definitely not worth what it will take to get him. Unless he gave the Jags a home state discount, which I just dont see happening given his attitude recently.

I am okay with signing Holt as long as the numbers are not ridiculous. Lets not kid ourselves. He is a shell of his former self. But still better than anything we have right now. Crabtree would also be a nice addition but I am not sure he will be there at 8.

Yes, the true value of Holt would likely be to mentor our younger receivers and to give us some sort of production for a year or two.  I think so long as it is the type of deal that is light on guaranteed money then I am really really rooting for him to sign.  As far as Boldin is concerned, there is no chance of acquiring him as the price tag will simply be too expensive.  There is no potential for him to give the Jaguars a "home state discount" - He isn't a free agent.  He would have to acquired via trade... and I don't think the Arizona Cardinals are very interested in giving the Jaguars any discounts.

QuoteESPN - Former St. Louis Rams wide receiver Torry Holt agreed to a three-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday that could be worth as much as $20 million, according to a source.

Finally! Someone adequate for Garrard to throw the ball to.

Hmm - So now does Torry Holt become the most heralded and/or decorated player in Jaguars history?  I know he hasn't done anything for us yet, but from an NFL standpoint, I have to believe that he's the biggest superstar to date for this franchise (7 time pro-bowler/11th all time in receptions).......

^^^I dunno J-Smooth, Boselli, and Freddie T was pretty damn good too.

No. Because he did all that with the Rams. Sounds like a great deal for the jags.. the only guaranteed money is $3MIL in 09. Everything else is incentive based.

I agree - but he STILL carries a better (complete) resume than ANY player that the Jags have ever had. Obviously, Tony Boselli's career ended prematurely & who knows what Jimmy Smith might have accomplished......

Great contract numbers for the team. Low risk, high reward.

That's like hooking up with Sofia Loren 2009 vs. the 1960's. Sure she's held up well but not like the old days.

True - BUT - from a small market standpoint, Torry Holt's gonna carry more name recognition than anyone else we've been able to historically serve up to date.  I bet we'd still be selling Smith jerseys had he stuck it out, too.
