QuoteCSXT wins award from EPA

CSX Transportation has won an award from the Environmental Protection Agency for its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

CSXT won the SmartWay Excellence Award for conserving fuel, improving fuel efficiency and upgrading its fleet of locomotives. The railroad also took steps to reduce emissions by limiting the time its engines spend idling.

CSXT is the only railroad among the SmartWay Transport Partnership's 600-plus members to win the award.

The SmartWay program was started in 2004 by the EPA and a group of 15 shipping and business leaders, including CSXT. The goal is to reduce fuel use, greenhouse gas emissions, and air pollutants from the freight transportation sector.

Thirty-four total SmartWay Excellence Awards were presented in Philadelphia at a conference of supply chain management Oct. 21-24.

CSXT is a division of Jacksonville-based CSX Corp. (NYSE: CSX) and has a 21,000-mile railroad network with service to 23 eastern states and the District of Columbia.

Jason

Great news for CSX.  Hopefully more local companies will lead the charge toward greener buisness.

Another reason for CSX to get the stadium naming rights.
