Hi all,
I've been lurking here at Metro Jacksonville for several months and this site has become one of my daily visits--I enjoy reading all the ongoing discussions and arguments here every day.

I grew up in central New Jersey and moved to Jacksonville about six years ago.  My wife (who grew up here) and I just bought our first house in Riverside back in July after renting for a couple years.  We love our neighborhood, and really love being able to walk or bike to the library, grocery store, the local theater or a restaurant downtown, and we're looking forward to the new arts/farmer's market that's starting this spring.  As a relative newcomer I think Jax has an incredible amount of potential to be a first class city.  I think we need to get Lakelander, Ocklawaha, and/or Stephen Dare (or several others that regularly post here) to run for mayor or city council and get some progressive leadership to take Jacksonville into the 20th century and beyond!   Roll on the historic street cars and modern light rail!

OK I'm going back to lurk mode now.

Keep up the good work!

Welcome Hovercraft!  Feel free to join the discussions as the main purpose is better understanding of each other and tossing about ideas to promote and better Jacksonville. :)
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Thanks for the warm welcome BridgeTroll and Stephen--I agree 100%!  I know there were some pretty heated discussions here between conservatives and liberals (stinkin' labels!) around the time of the presidential election in November and though I may not always agree with everyone here all the time, I think this forum is a great way to build community and consensus for what we as citizens of Jax need to work towards to better this city for everyone.  I'll try and toss in my two cents now and then!
:)

Welcome Hovercraft.  I too have lurked for a long time, getting to know the characters on the board, and have recently started contributing.  Nice choice in Riverside, welcome to the neighborhood.  I'm a Jax native (4 generations) and saw the light when I moved back from St. Augustine.  Good stuff happening in 5 Points (can you say O'Brothers) and I hear that the formerly Green restaurant at Post & Park is going to be Thai.   We can hope.   Cheers and see ya around the 'hood!
