??? :'( :'( Thanks # 28 for helping to destroy the Miami Dolphins in the 99 playoffs. My Miami cousin are very happy to see Fred go, but I will always remember that beat down!!

From what I read on ESPN it sounds like they will try to resign him to a lesser $$$ contract. Hopefully he'll decide he wants to finish his career here even if it means less playing time and less money.

From the scrawler at the bottom of ESPN...Taylor says he offered to take a pay cut to stay with the team. Also from ESPN http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3911006:

QuoteDel Rio made it clear the team has no plans to re-sign Taylor

Still a long way between now and next season, but I dont expect him back. We'll see.

Re: The "pay cut-"

Fred supposedly told Pete Prisco that he was asking for $4 mil.  He was set to be paid $6 mil, $1 mil in roster bonus + $5 mil salary.

He obviously wasn't serious about the pay cut, considering that Maurice Drew will be the starter and is making only just over $500k (unless they re-do his deal during the offseason).  No way would the Jags pay Fred 4 mil to be a backup behind a guy making only half a mil.

Cutting him is in the best interest of both Fred and the team.  Fred can seek one last payday, and the Jags aren't spending 6 mil on a 2nd string back.

From what DelRio said it sounds like it's not about money but younger legs. Jones-Drew will most likely get a new contract this offseason and the money he deserves. Greg Jones got a huge contract last year and he'll see more action. + Chauncey Washington who was drafted last year will probably be added more to the mix.

I would also bet money the Jags pick up a RB in the later rounds of this years draft.

This sucks, I can understand it financially, but it still sucks. To let the man finish his career elsewhere is sad. Just 88 yards until he passes Riggins and jumps into the top 15 rushers in NFL history :(

Hey, maybe he'll end up in a big market...get a few shining moments...further endear himself to mainstream fans...and increase his chances to get to the HOF.

How would Jags fans feel if he ended up playing for the Colts?

I hope he catches on with a superbowl contender.

My early guess would be Tampa. I've seen a few sports writers have suggested him going there too.

i dont really wanna think about it. Wherever he ends up, I'll deal with my torn allegiances then. But my worst fear would probably be New England. Please, anywhere but there...

A sad day for me. I know it is a business, but it still hurts. I hope it doesnt take a long time to add his name on the ring of honor at JMS.

How about a reunion with Tom C at the Giants?

Jason

I don't want to see Fred playing for anyone in our division.  My guess is Miami, he lives there (for the most part) and surely plans to retire there.

thelakelander

It won't be Miami.  They already have their three top RBs under contract.  I don't think he'll be willing to sign for what they are paying Ricky Williams.
