Not only is your post idiotic, it is wrong.

Stop calling gay people fetishists.

Sorry but the truth is it is a sexual fetish just as a man who is obsessed with feet or any other deviant sex act.

"Wow."

You win most ignorant post.

Can lefties make any points without insults?

I am not insulting you.  It is a fact that you sound ignorant and like a bigot.

By your logic a heterosexual person has a fetish for the opposite sex.

I don't think I have a fetish for my husband, that simply happens to be my sexual orientation.

Sexual orientation is not a freaking fetish! Or a choice.  Just like I don't have a fetish for brown eyes nor did I chose to be born with them. It just happenned!

Actually, under the definition posted by RiversideGator, homosexual sex is NOT a fetish, because homosexual sex involves the genitals.

Not exactly.  Heterosexual conduct involves genital to genital contact.  Last time I checked, the anus and the mouth were not where babies came from.

Homosexuality has been around since the beginning of time.  From before Alexander the Great and onward!  I know plenty of married men and men with girlfriends who have sex with other men.

So has murder.  The fact that a behavior has existed for eons does not prove that it is not dysfunctional.

More name calling.  This does nothing to win your argument.

No, by my definition, a fetish does not include sexual fixation on genital part of the body of the opposite sex.  This is normal heterosexual attraction.  However, it too can be misdirected.

Clearly you think gay people ALL CHOOSE to be gay and are morally flawed.

I will never agree with that.

And I am not trying to "win".  I am simply can't fathom your thought process.  All I can conjure up is that it is deeply rooted in religion or fear.

I am not trying to insult you or throw stones, but all of your comments are seriously throwing me for for a loop.

so, given your difinition of 'fetish'.

What exactly do you think is fetishistic about same sex attraction and love that is not also true about non same sex attraction and love?

Do you seriously think that same sex couples are only sexual relationships?

We are not talking about fishing buddies here.  We are talking about people of the same sex being joined in marriage.

You don't have to like homosexuals' sexual behavior or even like the idea of them being married.
But it isn't for you or the goverment to decide!

The bottom line is they should be allowed the same civil rights as everyone else.

I seriously can't believe that people feel this way.
It really, really rubs me the wrong way and feels contrary to everything our country is about.

A) Gay people getting married DOES NOT cheapen marriage.

Yes it does.  As I stated before, this has been the experience in those European nations which allow gay marriage.  Specifically, less men and women get married where there is gay marriage.  This may be simply correlation rather than causation but I think it is a symptom of a general coarsening and degradation of the culture.

QuoteB) Marriage does not equal family.

No. but marriage is the foundation of most successful families.

QuoteC) People can exist as a family without marriage, without kids, without sharing blood.

I suppose we could construct some scenarios where this might occur, but on the whole successful families which produce kids and strengthen society are comprised of a man and wife joined in marriage.
Food for thought RiversideGator! Maybe the reason that there are fewer marriages in Europe might have a correlation to Gay people. Maybe some Gay Europeans opted out of what society wanted and married a person of their own sex. I will agree with you on that point that if Gay people are allowed to marry that would decrease the number of Heterosexual marriages. Doesnt that mean that there are really hundeds of thousands if not millions more Gay people around than those conservative estimates we always here about. GO GATORS!

jtwestside

Whether gay people get married or not they still exist! And neither degrade our culture. They are a PART of it.
You are in denial.

As far as our culture and society taking a downturn we have bigger fish to fry! Like violence.
If anything this narrow-mindedness is what is toxic for our culture. Trying to sweep things under the rug, act like they are dirty and don't exist.

People in general are not getting married as often or as early.  Why? Because my generation realizes that marriage is not always all it is cracked up to be or necessary for happiness.

I suppose the fact that I am a woman and can now wear pants and work seriously threw our culture into a tail-spin as well.  The insanity of it all!

To me the whole "erosion of marriage, or culture" argument smells the same as when I hear someone say "well we never had these problems before they took prayer out of schools". I just think to myself "yeah right, we were living in one big utopia with no crime or murders before that!"

Any use of government to control someone’s personal life because you have a religious bias is wrong. I think people should look pretty hard at themselves if what others do in the privacy of there own home (or what affection they show in public)  :o bothers them so much. For godsakes get over it.

I would like to second stephendare’s request. RiversideGator, so far your arguments have been pretty vague. You keep saying that allowing gays to wed has been ruining the sanctity of marriage in Europe but you aren’t specifically explaining how or giving any examples. You might as well be saying its wrong “because I said so”. So less men and women are getting married over there now, do you have any actual evidence that its directly related to gay marriage?
Conformulate. Be conformulatable! It's a perfectly cromulent deed.

Exactly!

Marriage was a screwed up crapshoot before homosexuals came out of the closet.

I'm not anti-marriage. Just saying it already has its issues.

I don't see the benefits of oppression.

uptowngirl

Why so many slams against marriage? After all this whole thread is about some wanting to get into the game and being denied the right, yet almost every other post is a direct put down or implied put down (marriage is comical, everyone gets divorced, it is not all it is cracked up to be, too many gay men in false marriages cheating on their wives, and on and on) to marriage?

Gay marriage is not what is killing the family it is the 4 in every 10 out of wedlock (single women households)(as of 2005) children being born. Since the numbers have been increasing every year I think it would be safe to assume something like HALF being born are born into single mother households. The fact that this is completely normal and acceptable is what is destroying families in the traditional sense.

And no offense to men, but ya'll can be a real drag, not help out around the house and with the kids so why bother!  ;) :D :D :D :D

David

Here's how we solve the single mother epidemic:

State mandated & paid for abortions for all.

If you're not married and get pregnant, we make it the law to get an abortion. That way only good babies are born and everyone will grow up in a happy & healthystandard issue family.

RiversideGator, I would like to make one more comment on this and I am done(for now Ha! Ha!)  As a new member of this site I realize that you and I do have one thing in common, our love for this city and the continued hope that we all strive to make Jacksonville a more livable, walkable and socially relevant city. Just rememeber that the gay community played a huge part in the revitilization of Riverside, and to a smaller scale San Marco. I see the same thing happening in Springfield. When the gays in J-ville get on boatd with downtown that will be a tremendous assett to that area as well. Thank ypu and others for laying tjhe groundwork for all of us in this exciting journey. We will just have to agree to disagree with the whole gay marriage issue.    (sorry if this is a double post I think I somehow screwed up the first time)

So what is it everyone wants? Same legal rights as a married couple? Or just the ability to get married even though you do not feel the need for it and consider it comical, so you can thumb your nose at others who believe differently?? I am trying to be supportive, but some of you are not making it very easy...

Honestly, I think you may be on to something. Seriously the gay dudes are crying over the ability to having a legal document applied to them. Its just a document. Why don't you fellas just shack up? Why do gay people always try to force people into thinking they are normal? And don't say you not trying to force people, because you are. That is where the animosity comes from. Someone called it "In your face" that is the wrong approach. Gay dudes are creating more enemies then they actually have. You are annoying people that really don't want to be bothered. Why? Again why can't you dudes just shack up? Everyone had a chance to vote, the vote didn't go in the gay folks favor and they cry about it? A lot of people didn't want Obama in office, but I don't see any pointless rallies about that. The McCain voters had their grips for a few days and then we ALL moved on. If the vote would have went in the gay folks favor you wouldn't see the str8 people protesting. Be gay and be quiet. We all remember the race wars in the 60s. Physically...do you gay dudes want that battle? If you irritate enough str8 dudes do you want to feel that pain? We can have educated debates all day, but debates lead to violence. The forcefulness will create hate and violence. How come there are more gays now, then it was in the 70s? How come there were more gays in the 70s, then the 40s? Being gay is not a choice? Oh right you were born that way. Secret "MEN MARRY THEIR WIFE BECAUSE SHE HAS A VAGINA" If she had a penis they wouldn't marry her. THAT IS NORMAL.....Putting a mans penis inside of another man is not normal. OK? Its ok...but it is not normal. If thats what makes you happy hey, sword fight in the nude all day if you wish, but stop broadcasting your lifestyle to people that don't want to be bothered. You guys be careful at that little rally. The economy is bad and many are under a lot of stress. This topic makes me want to vomit, but I see too many str8 men on here sugar coating what they really want to say. So I had to speak up.

2 fingers....nope scratch that.....middle finger!
