The forums are on fire!!!! All of the racist are coming out of the woodworks!!!! I thought it was 2008!! I can't believe some of the stuff I am reading on the internet!!! I mean its cool that he is black and all, but I don't think that is the reason he won. From what I could see, Republicans are just not that attractive right now, due to W. Bush. I have heard of sore losers but, this is sad. Its 2008, whats the big deal?

Al Gore lost and a lot of people were heated, but not as heated as the folks that didn't like Obama. I feel like the DeLorean just dropped me in Birmingham 1963!! Is this how people REALLY feel? Everyone must understand why the black community is happy. This is a big step for us as a race, hey I hope a Latino & Asian can eventually get  in as well, but come on. After 43 of the same thing the 44th can't be different? Big ups to Joe Biden!

dont let it frighten you, coolyfelt. Its similar to conservative reaction against clintons (times a million). But the choice was made and the election was definitive. America wants change, the president elects campaign said so from day 1 (feb 2007) he never flipped on that message. on a racial perspective, a majority of whites voted for the pres elect than voted for mccain.  A LOT MORE! and florida is blue!

JeffreyS

Look America still has bigotry problems (amendment 2) but to complain about racism today???? I mean use your heads.  There were legitimate political differences between the two candidates and that and a rebuke of Bush is what drove the vote!  How about if we try to enjoy the victory and be half as gracious as McCain was last night. You can find nuts who blog radically on anything.

cooly - wanna take a wild guess what would've happened last night if the vote had been 52% to 48% in the OTHER direction?  forget message boards and forums.  think LA Riots of the past.  think Chicago Riots of the past.  think about those guys with nightsticks in front of the philly polling station.  ALL THAT TIMES TWENTY AND MUCH MORE WIDESPREAD.  and for really no other reason than their candidate had lost.  maybe THIS was why God allowed Obama to win - to preserve our union a bit longer.

btw - world markets may have sky rocketed, but our market is tanking today.

what does THAT tell you?

I wouldn't know about the racist forums or blogs as I don't look at them.  I can, however, tell you I am heated.  I'm upset that throughout the entire year (so it seems) that was the campaign, potential voter after potential voter stating they were pro-Obama was interviewed and knew little to nothing about his position or agenda for our country.  Instead, they focused on his race.  It would be "momumental" if he were elected, tehy said.  Well, of course.  It would also have been monumental if Alan Keyes were to have been voted into office too, but he wasn't...he didn't have the money to market a campaign near what the REPs or DEMs have had or even come close to the money that Obama had backing him from all his celeb (and various other types) friends.

I hate to think this way but it's been proven time and time again; the majority of Americans are lemmings.  They buy what they are told is the best and what they are told will make them feel good.  They try to be better than others because someone somewhere told them that to have more, to own what they were told is better, to have more money, to have a title, is being someone.  Put a pretty face with a lot of money and a lot of celebrity clout in front of those typical American lemmings and you have what happened last night.  To quote one Obama voter when asked her reason for her vote, "...because when Obama is president gas will be free and I won't have to pay my mortgage payment."  Little do these people know just how much life is going to change if Obama is able to put in action all of the plans his has stewing in his head.  Ask the majority of Americans the definition of Socialism or Facism and they'll look at you crooked and give you a guess that might only touch on the true meaning, but in the next 4 years there is the very real potential they'll be living it.

On a positive note, I have faith in the productive men and women of our country that they will not stand for having their hard-earned money stripped away from them and handed to the individual having lived on welfare for the last 10 years with 6 kids and owning the latest cell phone, x-box game system and SUV.  I have faith that these Americans will not stand for forced volunteerism or the government take-over of their local non-profit that they VOLUNTARILY contributed to their entire lives.  I have faith that these Americans realize it is they who own this country and keep it running and without them the lights would not turn on, the gas would not pump and there would be no market to crash.

"You've forced yourselves to live with undeserved, irrational guilt. Is it ever proper to help another man? No, if he demands it as his right or as a duty that you owe him. Yes, if it's your own free choice based on your judgment of the value of that person and his struggle. This country wasn't built by men who sought handouts. In its brilliant youth, this country showed the rest of the world what greatness was possible to Man and what happiness is possible on Earth... The world will change when you are ready to pronounce this oath:  I swear by my Life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man,  nor ask another man to live for the sake of mine."

John Galt - Atlas Shrugged, written by Ayn Rand

very well-written 2nd.  your analysis here is MOST spot-on...

I get frustrated for the same reasons, pancake. But let me point out there were many lemmings voting Republican as well.

David

Exactly. I've felt the last 8 years has been the march of the Republican lemmings.  It's nice to see we do have the ability to change direction. He still couldn't quite win all of Duval county though. Jax has always been and will continue to be fairly conservative, so at least conservatives & republicans will continue to have their oasis in Northeast Florida.
