JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The City of Jacksonville and the Jaguars have said they hope to put a new name on Jacksonville Municipal Stadium before the regular season starts. Time is running out.

We're five days from the first regular season kickoff, and there's still a big grey wall where a stadium name should be. Will the Jags start the season with a fresh name at quarterback -- and no name on the building? The city says hang in there.

"We're hopeful that the announcement will be soon.... We're very optimistic that it's going to be a very big deal and a good deal for everybody," said Susie Wiles, a top aide in Mayor John Peyton's office.

Wiles says the old deal with Alltel generated about $600,000 a year. The new one should be worth much more, and Wiles says that's good news for taxpayers.

Right now, your tax dollars go into a trust fund to foot the bill for things like cops and cones on game days. The city says once the Jags sign a new naming rights deal, the money from that deal will pay for the trust fund. That would free up your tax dollars to go to other city services you count on.

Wiles says the Jags are working up a deal with a company that's got a big First Coast presence. But she can't reveal the name -- that's the Jaguars' job.

"Having a name on your stadium is kind of what's expected anymore, and we're optimistic that we're going to have a good one," Wiles said.

It may not top Friday's huge shocker when Coach Jack Del Rio swapped quarterbacks, but the city says you should expect another big announcement from the boys in teal and black before they take the field on Sunday.

Name or not -- there are still plenty of seats inside the stadium for Sunday's game.

The Jaguars have sold about 500 tickets since Friday, and they need to sell 3,000 more before Thursday at 1:00 p.m. If they don't sell enough tickets, the game will not be televised here on the First Coast.

You can buy tickets on the west side of the stadium, or you can click here to get them online.

DVI Stadium.  They obviously can afford it with the money they are making of parking in Jacksonville?  I wonder if the president of that company is a friend of a certain high ranking city official with lots of gas.  ;D

Everything has pointed to Vistakon/Acuvue/J&J for months. The Gator Bowl should also be getting an official sponsor soon.
