This is so Jacksonville. The "grand opening" of a normal self-storage unit facility is a newsworthy topic. *facepalm*

And I realize I am creating more "news" by sharing this story, it just kind of struck me as an absurd topic.

I get it's the chic thing to be cynical about these days, but Jax Daily Record's whole purpose is to document real estate transactions in the Jacksonville area. They once ran a news story when the offices building I used to work in was sold and transferred to a new owner. No changes to the building, no new buildout, not even a new tenant, just a sale. That doesn't mean it was "news worthy" except to a niche publication like JDR...

A lot of real estate people and other interested/related businesses do pay attention to all these "developments".  Jax and N.E. Florida are now big enough that it isn't easy to follow everything without an assist from the press.

And, all the companies involved in these projects likely issue press releases and invite the press to their openings.  These stories might be good to fill in between bigger stories that don't happen every day.  Lastly, JDR probably networks at them with all the development types there to pick up future stories of note before anyone else, something they excel at.

I give them credit for covering every corner of the region like no one else.  Not every story is going to be earth shaking.

Just happy to have some media left doing more than just covering murders and mayhem.

I'm in the CRE space.  The Daily Record is by far the best source for CRE news and is the first thing I look at every morning. Karen Mathis does a great job of staying on top of what is going on.

Completely agree. They do have a lot of "boring" news but the real estate news is top-tier.

I think their coverage of City Hall rivals the Times Union at times.  They seem to be expanding their coverage to more than just development over time.

In today's world, we need all the media we can get given the reduction in force in that industry and the amount of misinformation on the web and emanating from the White House, state capitals and city halls. Hate to imagine if politicos had no one looking over their shoulders.
