Came across this update on Instagram:

QuoteUPDATE: Delays and cost increases‼️ 1) Due to work currently in dry dock being delayed, the Orleck's dry docking will be delayed by weeks. This shift could be at the end of November or early December. 2) Our new estimate of the work has gone up by half a million since our pre-Covid estimates 18 months ago.  While this not the best news to report, we remain committed to building the Jacksonville Naval Museum and making the Orleck our center piece exhibit.  Not all bad news, we did just receive an amazing $100,000 dollar donation from an out of state gentleman, a Navy Vet, who strongly believes in our mission to build the museum and save the Orleck.  More donations like this is always needed! Especially now with price increases.

When the Orleck gets to the yards, she will then receive an inspection to ensure she is capable of being a museum ship for the next 10 years and within the JHNSA financial means. If she can not, the decision then will be made what to do with her. Preferably an artificial reef. But we hope it does not come to that.

‼️Be advised: dates could shift depending on the work in dry dock that's ahead of us and also the speed of Orleck's work. She *could* be towed to Jacksonville by the end of November or early December! We will keep you posted!

ICYMI: City Council approved! 17-0!

Rofl... make it a reef now and find something relevant that might actually float for a few years...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Just what Jacksonville needs!  An old rust bucket from a bygone era that will need constant maintenance.  When has Jacksonville ever maintained anything?  What a sick joke.  Just another bad move for my home town.  I'd rather have my yard waste and recycle picked-up,

Spoiler.  It's going to be too much work and become a reef.

Wonder what happens to all the money raised and spent to date to find out.  Do they even have a clue what the probabilities are of a successful inspection or are they just shooting in the dark?

As I have said before, hats off to their dedication and passion to push this forward.  But, if they haven't done adequate homework and scrutinizing their numbers and this doesn't work out, I don't see them having enough credibility to take another swing at this.

To be honest, Khan should donate his yacht, Kismet, which is for sale for around $200 million (any takers here?).  It's only a few dozen feet shorter and probably better set up to generate more revenue as an event venue for rent from what I have read.  Plus, it is still operable so it could be chartered for actual sailings (Khan does this himself - at $1+ million a week).  And, the curiosity of the public to tour a billionaire's yacht might create more traffic than a stripped down Navy ship.  As a bonus, it can double as a helicopter landing pad for Downtown (it has two of them on-board  8)).  It might also be a hit with the moneyed Four Seasons crowd!  It even has ties to Jax as the official yacht of the Jaguars.  Just saying....

She's expected to arrive downtown between 11:30 and 12:30.

Viability discussions aside, particularly with the MOSH being a likely four years out, this is really cool to see.

Wow, look what just happened to another historic ship in Buffalo!  There seems to be no end to what can go wrong with these ships.

QuoteWWII-era ship tilting into Lake Erie in Buffalo, New York, naval par

(CNN)A WWII-era naval destroyer, an exhibit at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park, is partially submerged into Lake Erie, according to the facility.

A statement from the park says, "a serious hull breach" occurred Wednesday in the USS The Sullivans.

Paul Marzello, the naval park's president and CEO, told CNN affiliate WKBW that the cause of the breach is under investigation, and crews both in the water and on the deck are attempting to identify where the holes might be.

According to Marzello, the ship will not sink entirely as the lake is only about five feet deep.

The breach is on the starboard side of the ship, according to Marzello.

It may not sink but that looks deeper than 5 feet.

The current The Sullivans is stationed at Mayport.
