The new Studebaker XUV, This is your Hummer on Steroids!

Okay, so I love the underdog. I am a sucker for those old but great transportation systems! Anyone have a Studebaker? Did you know they are still around? Ever see an Avanti? How about the new Studebaker XUV?

This is the 2004 model that I don't have...

A pretty White Convertable, 2007 in SOUTH FLORIDA (No I don't know anything about that! hee hee)

Did you know that the Avanti sports coupe was to save the company in the mid 1960's? It was a fine car and designed by Raymond Lowery, (coke bottle, streamlined trains, etc. fame) The Avanti WAS ALL THAT... and more. Sadly Corvette, Mustang and the Baracudda came out at the same time and the Avanti never took off.

Studebaker retreated from American autos and went into Canada. They ventured into tractors (Graveley) merged with an engine builder (Worthington) and introduced a line of Locomotives under MLW Corp. Meanwhile back at the old factory, the workers on the "NEW" Avanti line, some of which had built Studebaker carriages and buggys, had managed to buy the Avanti line. They continued to make the Avanti as a hand-made car under the "Avanti" automobile name. Several changes of ownership and several moves later and we enter a new century and Avanti has just complete a State-of-the-art facility in Mexico. They introduced the new XUV in 2005 and stunned the World when Studebaker came home and the name was restored. GM filed to sue over the XUV grill looking like a hummer, but this time Studebaker was saved by Dodge and Ford that joined Studebaker in saying the Hummer stole the Jeep Grill... The Suit was dropped and Avanti is off and running once again. Do I have one? Oh do I wish!

Gotta love those underdog cars! Trains! and Trolleys!

My best friends mother's sister's husband (Todd's uncle) bought a 1985 or 86 Avanti.  This car was black and awesome with a vette engine.  Word has it, the dad who was very wealthy brought the car home and his son, took one look at it and feel in love.  Dad let son take her for a test ride....the boy, never brought the car back.  You may see it running around in Jacksonville, has gold bbs wheels.  The dad got his money because Popeyes didn't want his competition.  Sold out his Biscuts chain to Popeyes and never competed in  the fast food industry again.
