The Avenues Mall area is not very safe for pedestrians.

Is this surprising? The Avenues has been designed from the start as a place you drive to and park at before shopping.

The question is whether there exists demand for that to change.
So, to the young people fighting in this movement for change, here is my charge: march in the streets, protest, run for school committee or city council or the state legislature. And win. - Ed Markey

I've seen people walk across those intersections which I think is pretty dangerous.

None of the three intersections with traffic lights that surround the mall have walk signals.

Lol - my wife suggested I could walk to the Avenues Malls from the new house.  I thought, "Are you crazy?  I would be dead in a week."

The total lack of concern for pedestrians is appalling. Last week I watched a little elementary school kid trying to carry his bike across a crosswalk because the City didn't put a curb cut in at the end of the sidewalk, and then then they didn't even pave from the crosswalk to adjacent sidewalk.  Total failure.  It is at the corner of Old Kings Road and Rathbone.

But hey, in over a mile of street it is the only crosswalk so we got that going for us.

It is a little surprising....our office was across the street from the mall and we expected FDOT to install ped infrastructure at the signals while resurfacing Southside and Philips...that is common practice now.

Sad but true.

My pet peave is going out into suburbia and seeing those boxes with the graphics reminding the pedestrians to use the crosswalks.   If there's enough pedestrians around to justify the expense of that messaging, there are enough to have the traffic signal always cycle for pedestrians.
